About a month ago I bought a new driver. Really my first driver. Got fitted by the pro who I have been taking lessons with.

At his suggestion, I only hit drivers with stiff flex shafts. I wound up buying a 907 D1 (GD YS6+ stiff). I have not been able to get consistent with this club. So I went back and hit the D1 and several other clubs with regular shafts yesterday, and concluded that while I may have to switch back to a stiff shaft in a year or two, right now the regular flex is a better fit for me.

It looks like reshafting is not an option...will cost almost as much as just buying a new club due to the design of the 907. They would need to order the 907 for me. With the 909 coming out soon, I am wondering if I should hold off...would be really annoying for the 909's to become available a week or two after I got the new 907, only to find out I like them even better. But if they're not really going to be available til next year I don't want to wait that long.

Well, no making a long story short here, but the point is...any word on when the 909's are coming out? He said October, the Titleist site says early November.

The new 909's come out sometime in October.

Check the main page, they even have a review of the driver, fairway metals, and hybrid.

my local shop told me that if Titleist follows their traditional release trends they'll be some form of backorder issue

he thinks early November...

BUMP

I was just on the Titleist home page and noticed the most dreadful description a golfer can see

_____ shaft "designed by Titleist" ... which typically means that the club has a shaft that is painted to look like an exotic shaft

the vodoo shaft retails for somewhere around 350, meaning this driver will only come with "designed by Titleist" shafts and must therefore be custom ordered, hence making me wait an eternity for the stick and therefore not being able to use it until next season

That's not right at all. The shafts have the same technology and are 99% the same - they're just tweaked to work best in the clubheads and for the target player(s).

You can still custom order the "true" shaft, but since you're likely getting one that performs

better in the clubhead with the "by Titleist" version, I'm not sure why you'd want to do that. Here are snippets from someone who asked to be called a "senior manager at Titleist":

Source: senior manager at Titleist The Titleist proprietary versions of the Aldila Voodoo, Diamana Blue, and Matrix Ozik XCon shafts have all been tweaked versus the market versions to perform best in our heads and for our customers. The shaft specs have been ever so slightly tweaked for weight, torque, and bending stiffness profile to better perform in the new 909 heads and better fit the playing requirements of our audience. The Titleist version shafts all have slightly higher torque by design. Extensive player testing at TPI showed us that slightly higher torque shafts feel better, are more directionally accurate, and preferred overall by more single digit players. Each Titleist shaft is faithful to the overall design premise and performance of the market version or it would not have the name and graphics on it (the shaft mfg would obviously not permit it). We will offer both our Titleist versions designed specifically for 909 as well as the market/tour versions of these products. Since we buy the market versions of these shafts from our shaft partners in small quantities we have to apply the appropriate upcharge similar to market pricing.

Just for example, the Aldila VooDoo market shaft is 66 grams with 3.5° torque. The version Titleist will offer is 69 grams with 3.3° torque. The Diamana Blue market shaft is 63 grams with torque of 3.6°. The version Titleist will offer is 65 grams (again slightly heavier) with 4.3°. The shafts are the same, but they're tweaked by Aldila or whomever to perform better in the clubheads. A great head with a great shaft can still be garbage unless the two are paired well together. If you were to buy a "by Titleist" shaft from Aldila (not that you can, but if you could) it'd cost the same as the others because it's the same technology, the same build, etc. - just tweaked slightly to be better in the clubhead. Aldila wouldn't put their name on it if it was a crappy version of the shaft. Oh, and to get back to the original question, yeah, they're coming out in November.
