New Ping and Cleveland Gear

Today the Ping rep came to my home course, and since I know the rep for the Alaska area, he let me hit everything. Here is my quick review.

Rapture V2 Driver- This head is a pretty low spinning head, the Diamana Blue brought the launch angle up, but it spun the ball less. The Ping shaft (made by UST) launched a bit lower, and spun the ball a little more. But over-all this driver is a BIG improvement over the last Rapture

Rapture V2 Fairway- This head does launch the ball low, which is why they have higher lofts (16* 3 wood) but they shafts are great, and it has a nice boring flight, for me

Rapture V2 Hybrids- I carry last years model Rapture hybrid, and to be completely honest, to me the new ones didn't preform much different from the last one.

Rapture V2 Irons- I don't play SGI irons, but I could not miss with these irons. Although I couldn't tell where I hit them on the face, they did go forever. If you are willing to spend the money, and need the forgiveness, they are great SGI irons.

S57 irons- All I can say is WOW, these are amazing, they feel just like my Bridgestone J33's. They come stock with True Temper Dynamic Gold shafts, and for me, the ball didn't balloon on me like they do sometimes with my Bridestones. Great set of irons, plus they look great too.

iWi Putters- Felt and looked great, and if you play slow greens these are perfect since they are very heavily weighted. They are a great series of putters.


Now for Cleveland.

I didn't get to hit this stuff, but I did see all of the new stuff. It all looks great, especially the new launcher stuff, it sets up fairly square, and looks great.

Okay, I lied, I did hit some of the putters.

Cleveland is coming out with a new line of putters, the Cleveland Classic. I stoked some putts with the heel shafted putter (think Odyssey #9 with a bigger clubhead) and boy would I be darned, these felt AMAZING. They look, well, classic. They are very clean, great lines, and simple. They have a finish similar to the Bettinardi C Series. And the best part? They have and MSRP of $89!!!


Quick side note. The Cleveland rep told me that Cleveland is on the brinks of signing a big name who is in the Top 15 in the World Rankings. When I asked if he knew, or rather, if he could tell me, he said that no one knows who it is except the player, and the 3 or so people who have been at the contract negotiations.

No problem, the new driver just seemed to carry and carry and carry, then roll for ever. It is a very solid driver.

I'm really interested in the Launcher series, I liked the hibore design for Drivers but it never felt right (for me ) in the fairway wood head....I'm really curious about who Cleveland is signing though!

The Launcher has no scoop in the crown, and it is supposed to be a higher launch, lower spin head compared to the Hibore. Plus the head covers look SICK!!!!

And I want to know who the player is too
