Hi Guys,

I'm leaning towards the MP-57s since they are a little more forgiving than the MP60s.

I got fitted online on Golfsmith to see what it says on their Smartfit system. I entered my measurements and it said I need the Project X 6.5. I actually want a mid flight on my irons, but it recommended that.

It also said my shaft length should be -1/4 shorter. My Question:

If I get the clubs and they come in standard length, do they just cut the end of the shaft when you get fitted? My concern is if I order the clubs and then get fitted later, do I have to replace the entire shaft or do they just cut the end?

Thanks,
Erwin

I think online custom fitting is great if your a seasoned golfer with a reputable swing who knows their needs as far as fitting goes. Having said that online fitting is in my opinion is not worth much. It is basically a guess at what you will probably need based on swing speed, height and, hand size, wrist to floor measurement, ect. It does not take into account your personal swing, that needs to be done in person by a real live human fitter. If your going to drop $900 on clubs go see and hit them in person. I see your in Mission Viejo (which is where I am for the weekend), there are stores around here that will fit you, Nevada Bob's or Roger Dunn and if you want golfsmith there is one about an hour/hour and a half drive from here up in El Segundo on Rosecrans.

Thanks so much. Sorry. I forgot to include I will go to get fitted in the store, but was wondering how they lengthen/shorten clubs? If it's a simple "snip the tip" procedure or if you have to get new shafts

You can get new shafts but typically to save money for a shortening, they just get snipped. Depending on the shaft it could slightly alter the flex or kick point. In my experience the effect are more noticeable when it comes to graphite than steel.

Awesome. Thanks for the info! They have Hotstix literally down the street, but you can get a free fitting at the RD Golf in Mission Viejo and those guys are awesome.

Check out this URL: http://golf.about.com/od/faqs/f/griporhead.htm

Text Version:
Question: If I Want to Cut Down My Shafts, Should I Trim from the Grip End or Head End?

Answer: If the goal in making the clubs shorter in length is a desire to gain an improvement in accuracy, the reduction in length should be made from the grip end only. This will require:
1) removing or cutting off the existing grip,
2) cutting down the length with a tubing cutter (for steel shafts) or a small hacksaw (for graphite shafts),
3) re-installing the grip,
and most important: 4. adding weight to the clubhead in some manner to restore the swingweight feel of the club.

If clubs are shortened and no weight is added back to the clubhead, the chances of the length reduction having the desired effect are somewhere between slim and none.
