Custom Paintfill MP-33

I got a little bored yesterday and decided to get some acetone and Tester's Paints after work. My irons had some chipped paints, and needed a little touch-up. I could have gone with the original paint design… but I wanted a little extra touch. I decided to fill in the logos red, and filled in the numbers black like normal. It actually turned out quite well! It's my first time doing this, so I was very excited to see my irons pop-up. Anyone else customize their irons?

Here were my steps:

1. Washed my irons with water and soap, made sure I got out all of the dirt and grass.
2. Soaked the iron heads in acetone. Probably around 30 minutes or so.
3. Brushed out all of the paints, if the paint was stubborn, picked it out with a toothpick.
4. Painted in the logos with Tester's Paint. I didn't worry too much about going over the lines, that wasn't a problem at all.
5. Allowed to semi-dry, in about 45 minutes.
6. Used a rag and dip in acetone, wiped away the excess paints gently since it was only semi-dry.
7. Let dry over night.

1. Acetone: $4.
2. Paints: $1.50 x 2.
3. Total: $7 for 8 irons.

Nice job... I've been thinking of doing mine in the same color. Is that just the regular Testers red?

Yep, there's also a glossy kind, but I'm not sure how that would look so I went with regular.

I've also been thinking about doing redoing the paintfill on my 735's and my vokeys. Instead of using the classic red, I'm considering using the clear red paint (like on the studio select putters). I think it would look nice with the chrome! I'll post some pics if I ever decide to do it!

Looks great! I was thinking of doing something like this with my MP-33's during the winter. Is acetone pretty much paint thinner? Does it do anything to the chrome finish?

Yeah, acetone is a type of paint thinner, however to be safe to chrome, I'd use 100% acetone.

My MP-67s come in next week, and this is a fantastic idea to give it a little personal touch. I may be going to the hobby store soon.
