I went with Hogan, but after viewing the results, I wish I had voted for Slammin Sammy. He seems to not get the credit he deserves in history.

ditto on the slammin sammy, especially so after he got dissed by having his putting style made illegal but he lived out his days in comfort and grace, drinking and eating at corporate outings

Well, you're wrong. I also picked Nelson, The question was about everyone being in their absolute prime, and last time I checked, Nelson is the only one who didn't lose a single tournament for almost an entire season in his.

Henry Cotton MBE gets my vote,He dominated European golf in the 1930's and but for WW2 would have done so in the 1940's as well. At The Open in 1934 (Royal St Georges) his second round 65 was a record that stood for an amazing 43 years.Cotton won further Opens in 1937(Carnoustie) and 1948 (Muirfield).

this is a great topic for discussion. I, personally would narrow it down to Tiger, Jack, and Hogan. Every player on the list (as well as write ins) are all pretty close to each other talent wise. So there has to be something else that seperates them. I chose Tiger, Jack, and Hogan because of what they had in their heads and hearts. Not to say that the others don't but Hogan came back to win after a near fatal car crash, and Jack and Tiger, are well Jack and Tiger.

What would the format be for this battle royal? One tournament? Anyone could win, if it was a series of say 12 events filled with them playing on courses that some know, all know, and none know. That, would be excitement.

To qualify my vote, Tiger is the only one I have really seen play (Jack only towards the end of his career) but I cannot go past Tiger as I can not imagine that any other golfer ever has had the mental strength he possesses. The man is a freak

Consistency is the key to golf, and there was never anybody as ... well... consistently consistent as Hogan.

I went with Hogan...mainly because I just read his book.

Despite wanting to pick one of the other choices, such as Jack or Hogan or Lord Byron, I had to go with Tiger. I say Tiger based on his all-around game. His only weekness has been his driving, but he has such a great short game and ability to get the ball to the green that has not been much of a handicap for him. And of those listed he is probably the best putter (at least when it matters, although Jack was also great at 'timely' putts). However, the course design would could be a great equalizer. Each player would have advantages on different types of courses, which put premiums on different parts of the game. If each golfer got to choose a course that fit their game for 1 part of this competition, the only one I think Tiger probably would still not have advantage is Hogan's course (would probably be a tight course that requires the ball be 'worked' both ways a lot.
