I bought a slightly used hybrid that has a couple of small nicks on top. I'd like to fill them and spruce them up a bit. The hybrid head is blackish with a little blue metallic flake. Anyone ever do this? Paint followed by clear coat?

Thanks

What brand and model are the club(s)? Are the "nicks" just surface scuffs or something more significant like a dent?

Scratches are superficial. Ignore the glare, that is from the flash of the camera. It's the 20* Hybrid in my sig. Also, the white is wax build up in the scuffs. Yeah, I tried waxing 'em.

After careful inspection, research, and thought, I recommend not messing with the hybrid. Sky marks happen and golf clubs often suffer cosmetic damage. A fairly convincing fix on this club would actually be a very complex job.

The whole black/blue crown, back, and sole relief area would have to be carefully stripped and repainted smoothly with a matching color while being well covered beforehand with masking tape precisely on the entire perimeter of that area. Then, the light blue slot in the back would have to be done similarly. Also, the words "TITANIUM CROWN" on the back would need to have a specially made decal applied. The worst part looks simple. The white "MIZUNO" and roadrunner logo in the sole reliefs would need to be manually paint filled with a toothpick and cleaned off with acetone before any of the spray painting described before, let to dry, filled with modeling putty, and then have the putty removed from under that dried spray paint without damaging the finish. If anything goes wrong in the whole above process, it would have to be restriped and the process redone.

quick question... do you like those hybrids? and are they easy to get off the ground?

Yes, I do. I carry the 17* about 220 and the 20* about 200 (range balls). I haven't had them on the course much yet unfortunately. I am spending time at the range learning to hit them. The ball flight is medium. They are pretty easy to hit straight. I generally play the ball in the center of my stance for both. I have the standard stock Exsar HS2 shaft - stiff. They also have some playability, which I have learned unintentionally, but I learn from that, too.

Thanks. I agree. I think I'll try some touch up paint or shoe polish on a q-tip and some more clear coat.

You could also try nail polish. There are lots of colours and quite a few have some sparkle. They even have the little brush built in. I've used this before for minor scratch touchups where I didn't have an exact paint match.

Today's bag holds...

CGB Max 3/5 woods
CGB Max irons Rossa Spider putter...and way more golf balls than anyone should rightfully carry!

I filled mine in with super glue (smooth it into the gap and wipe the excess away real quick) and then about an hour later used an indelible sharpie to color over it in black. You can still see that there used to be a chip there if you really look hard, but otherwise it's a good match. It usually don't bother, but I'd just gotten a new Nickent 2H and I nicked it swinging it in my house (hit the leg of a steel chair) and was so pissed I needed to fix it immediately. I'm pretty anal, and I'm pleased enough with the result.

Not that I dont keep my clubs clean, after rounds and whatnot. But I never understood the mentality of extreme babying of clubs. Playing on the desert courses I do, if you hit into the desert your going to be hitting on basically dirt and gravel, but its still better than taking a drop. I know alot of guys who wont becuase they dont want to scratch their clubs. But to hell with that if i can hit it 150 yards back in the fairway I think Ill hang onto my stroke. The scratches on my clubs are well earned and worn battle scars.

The only thing I really baby is my Scotty. But I suppose Im an idiot for gaming that anyway....
