Quick question for you folks.

I am torn between 2 sets of irons, I have recently started gaming the MP30s and have also just inherited some CCIs (cast version) from my Father. With that being said, as I am a relatively higher handicapped golfer I was wondering what everyone would recommend me on using. I enjoy the look and feel of the MP30s, but struggle consistent ball striking specifically 3-5i. I have yet to use the CCIs, but plan on hitting the range later this week with them.

My main question: are the MP30s too much club for me? I have been using them for over a month and a half now, and cannot seem to gain any control with them and distance varies for clubs on a day to day basis. I know that the MP30s will provide great feedback when I mis-hit, but am I being overzealous with my club choice? I am ultimately striving to be a mid to high 80s shooter (however long that takes).

Thanks for any input.

The question comes down to how much you play and practice. The Mizuno's are a better players iron for sure, while the CCi's are probably going to be a little easier to hit. If you play a lot and work on your game, the MP30's are going to give you more chances to get better, but it also might mean you won't play as well for a little while.

One big advanage of the MP-30's is that they can be adjusted much easier than the CCi's can because they are a forged iron. Cast irons have much less adjustability to them.

There is also one other option. You can do like a lot of better players have done and mix the set up a little. Carry the longer irons for the CCi set with the short irons from MP-30. A lot of pros even do this sort of mixed set with good results. Another option is just to replace the long irons from Mizzy's with hybrids...

Basically it just comes down to playing the clubs you enjoy playing the most.

I would see how you get on but my gut feeling would be to use the CCI's until you become super consistent with the ball striking.

I have the CCI Cast as my second set, I play off 4 and love them. Really classic looking cavity, not huge chunky things, ideal when you want to switch to a more player iron as the change won't be as drastic.

here's my advice. if you have trouble hitting the 30's 3-5iron, try using the CCI 3-5irons in place of your mizuno's. yes it is nice to have an entire matching set, but i think i would give up some looks and perform better with all 14clubs in my bag. try the clubs out, maybe you like the 30's better, maybe the cci's...maybe even a combination of both. good luck.
