how long have you played

I got my first set on my 13th birthday and played my first round of golf that day. July 30th, 1967. Yes, I'm old. But I did have some knowledge and practiced some prior to that. My Dad bought me a 9 iron when I was 9 or 10. I would hit balls on our 7 acre weekend country place. I had several areas to hit from to a homemade green. Boy, those were the days. I had a lot of fun playing there.

Good old Dad had rheumatiod arthritis so he couldn't play. But he did caddy as a kid and loved the game. He did feel well enough to go play with me on the golf course one day, but that was it. But I sure do have him to thanks for getting me started. During the summers, he would drop me off at the local public course on the way to work. Then my mom would pick me up. Damn, too bad we can't turn back the clock.

Oh yes, my best round ever was 69. And that was a couple of years ago. I retired 2 years ago and have improved with all the extra practice time. I think I can beat that this year. Gonna try anyway. :)
