Ok, right now I'm playing random golf balls, mostly decent ones like titelist pro vs or titelist nxt.

All these comments are very silly. None of them make any sense. Play any ball you want for practice and learn about all of them. When it comes to the tournament play the one best suited for the conditions, how you are playing, and what looks nice to you at that time.

The idea your short game will suffer is really silly. Just chip and putt a few shag bags full of balls and you will have your feel. As per how far the ball will carry, we have laser's and you can dial in your distances the day before you play. Also, the course should be considered, especially the greens. Pros play one ball by contract, not be choice. You can play mulitple balls in practice all you want. That is the only way your going to ever find a better ball, by trying a new one. Play a hard two piece ball on hard greens in the dead of summer and I bet you learn a lot of creative shots around the green. Golf is a game of variables and adapting to changing elements. You want to practice by changing elements not keeping them the same.

In a game of changing variables why not remove variables when you have control over them? What I mean is it's not like halfway though a hole in competition someone's going to change your ball and you have to "adapt to the changed element". As long as you only carry one type of ball then you have effectively removed the variable. I agree you have to practice adapting but not when it's an element you have complete and direct control over pre-round...

i like to play pro v1s for practive and tournaments. i usually just buy alot of good balls of ebay and take out the ones that dont have any scuffs of scratches for tournament but the ones that have a few nicks i use for practice. and its a lot less expensive than buy a few dozen brand new.

    • Day 159 1-19 Flow drill while attempting to add arch in wrist on downswing. Not where it needs to be but felt good working on swing flow.
    • Day 1 (19 Jan 26) - after a week lay-off due to travels, felt great to get in some drills in the backyard today.  Started with lead arm only short pitches focused on squared face and light divot post ball.  Haven’t done this in a while and it showed, with some skulls and slices.  Settled into easy flighted balls - wrapped up with standard two handed swings.  Good restart to the daily drills.
    • That depends what you do within those two.  Are they your only options?   Check out Fit for Golf if you get a moment.  It's linked on the sidebar;  I did it for two years, stopped for a really bad reason, and I plan to get back to it soon.   Mike Carroll also has a great free podcast about a lot of topics in golf fitness.
    • Day 19, 1/19.  Finished work in time to spend 25 minutes hitting balls (hit 15) indoors, off a mat, into the net.  Usual focus.
    • Day 30 - 2026-01-19 Got 10 minutes in on the mat / net working on exagerrating movements I'm working on. And grip. Also worked with my friendly AI to summarize key negative tendencies I have so that I can build a personal checklist to follow. Will do more mirror work tonight.
