Greetings...I am 51, 6'4" 215 lbs, in decent shape, had successful back disk surgery in 1995.

Handicap = 30
Club speed = 95 mph (driver); 75-80 mph (6i)

Just bought Callaway X-18 graphites (1" over, 2 upright, stiff, 85g) and now reconsidering.

If I decide to go back to steel, Callaway will reshaft for me, choices are: Callaway Uniflex (112g), Nippon (99g), TT Dynamic Gold SL (106g), TT TX-90 (107g).

The Callaway rep highly recommended the DG SL or the Nippon. Can I please have some opinions on this?

Thanks!

I'm familiar with the True Temper shafts, so I can offer an opinion about those at least.

The difference between the two is in tip stiffness and 'kick-point'. The DG is a stiff tipped shaft with a high kickpoint, which translates to a lower, boring ball flight. The TX-90 has a softer tip and low kickpoint which will give you a higher trajectory all else being equal.

Your choice is dependent on what you're looking for: do you need help getting the ball up in the air? If so, the TX-90 may be your shaft of choice.

I have a naturally hard/fast swing and play the Dynamic Golds myself, but from what you've said the TX-90 may fit your swing better.
