I am new, real new, bought a garbage pair of Alien clubs to see if id stick out this golf thing. Im sold. Replaced the drive with a SUMO 5900, pure spin wedges that i love, and know exatly what putter and woods im gonna get. I am blown away by the performance of the 5900 and im set on nike irons. Only thing im stuck on is the choice between the SUMO irons and the 4D's. My iron game is slowly improved, but im built for power, not finese, so the short game is lacking, and ball striking is inconsistent as all hell. I found a used set of 4d's on global golf for under 300 with shipping. Anyone want to chime in and give a clueless newb some advice.

Not sure there is a perfect answer here. The Sumo irons (especially the set with hybrids) are going to be easier to hit in the short term because they are really designed to be very forgiving. However, the 4D is also a forgiving set but will also be a bit more versatile going forward. I think the ideal set for you would be to get the 4D, then replace at least the longest club (which I think is a 4 iron in that set) with a hybrid. The best thing to do is just to try both sets and see which one you like the look, feel and sound of best (plus price).

yea im def leaning towards the 4D's, the set i have no has a 3 and 4 hybrid that arent too bad. i swung the 4d's and really liked them, but than again, dont think i know what good is really.

I'd say replace the 3-5 irons with some older Nikes. The CPR and Slingshot are both good, and relatively inexpensive.

    • Day 23: weird day, and only had a little bit of time. Just did mirror work again, working on where the elbow is in the downswing
    • I flipped over to this tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. Anyone else watch? I picked it up during the golf relay event, but seeing these pros out having fun in alternative events was refreshing and entertaining. I’m sure it will be on in reruns in the next week or so, so I won’t spoil the outcome. Im curious what others thought of it. I’m recording it’s later airing to see the beginning.
    • Day 443 - 2025-12-17 Made a few swings in testing some things out at another academy. Might pop up on someone else's podcast in a few weeks.
    • Day 37 (17 Dec 25) - nine hole round with my good friend.  We got paired up with a couple of the men’s group regulars as part of their shootout.  Started off with a wonderful quad bogie and then a dbl on three to be six over thru three holes.  Game went 180° over the next five as I shot one under (including a chip in birdie on hole six and four up and down 1 putt pars) for a net finish of five over. What could have been a really tough nine became a solid finish due to staying in the moment and not checking out.  Great day in course management and keeping perspective .
    • Day 127 12-17 Backswing and flow practice. Took advantage of the 60 degeee weather(it was 20 degrees Sunday)
