First let me tell you a little history. I am 41 yo. I started playing in the 10th grade. I played on my high school team then went on to play on my college team. I have always had a slice (or fade back then). Back then I have always have been able to “man handle” the clubs and play to the course. I have always tried to emulate the greatest, Jack Nicholas. But his swing, with me, has always resulted as a slice (or fade). But now, as I have matured, and with limited mobility (as an old guy) I have been trying a lot of different things.

Fast forward to today………..Because of my limited flexibility and busted up shoulder I had developed an “over the top” swing and a strong slice that I compensated with a very strong grip that no longer worked with my overworked body. Well, over the last couple of months I have been hell bent on correcting these problems. I started stretching and developing a very strong shoulder turn and guess what……my slice disappeared. My swing still is not perfect, but I am getting a full coil (instead of all arms) and my contact is solid. My shots (driver and irons) are 10% longer, and now I am enjoying this game more than I ever have.

Remember rotate those shoulders. Doing so reduces the tendency for an out-in swing.

One of my key swing thoughts is "see the shoulder".

Basically that means for me to get the left shoulder tucked under the chin at the top of the swing. It almost forces a full turn.

Couple that with a brief pause at the top to set the club, and it cures many of my faults.

FYI: If 41 is "old guy" status, I'm pretty close to death

LOL!!! I feel that way!!! I feel my days are numbered..I am going to DIE SOON (hopefully in 60 years....LOL). I dont know how many children you have, but just getting my girls (13 & 21) to come eat supper with me everyday is a challenge. ( I know they have have lives too, but I RAISED them, they should be with me HERE EVERYDAY!!!!!!!!!!)....

Anyway, back on the subject....I, also have slowed my swing. I had a instructor tell me to count; 1-2-2-3; backswing, hold, hold, release. That help me alot in not rushing the shot which led to a more aggressive swing. (which with me is a "baseball swing)
