Getting fitted for a new set of Titleist AP2's and was wondering if anyone out there is swinging 6.5 stiffness Project X rifled shafts?

One rep told me I should be swinging 6.5's or 7.0's but I think that might be too drastic for me. I've been swinging 5.5 demos and although seeing decent accuracy, agree I need more stiffness because of some ballooning or some last second fades...but 6.5 may be too much. Not sure of my swing speed but I'm 6'5" 245 lbs and I can hit it. This is my last big decision with these sticks...Any suggestions? - I'm just really unsure

The fitting process should sort this decision out for you. Compare the data from the 5.5, 6.0 and 6.5. We don't know enough about you or your swing to make a decision but on past experience I would have thought a 6.0 would be plenty stiff enough for you.

I know - the catch is that I was "fitted" at Golfsmith but a local shop near me is giving me the best price. When I was at Golfsmith I wasn't hooked up to the simulator. it was just opinion that this guy was giving me. So I don't really know... I like to demo at a real range to see the ball flight the whole way through - and they only have a standard club

That's what you should do. I play the 6.0 Rifles in my irons. They are quite stiff. I actually lost about 1/2 a club from my old "uniflex" shafts, but gained much more control. I tried the 6.5's, they felt much stiffer than the 6.0's. The difference felt more dramatic than the difference from the 5.5-6.0 As information: My 6 iron head speed is/was 87 during the fittings, my Driver speed averaged 106. Good Luck .

Anything over 6.5 and youre probably getting into Tiger stiffness range. Unless you swing a 5 iron over 95mph i woudnt go any higher than a 6.

Also worth considering is that your playing swing should only be approximately85% of your maximum swing. If you are swinging all out in your fitting you are doing yourself a disservice.

It would be suprising to see the need for a 6.5 or 7.0 stiffness with an 85% swing for a weekend golfer.

I've swung the DG's and I just like the feel of the Project X shafts better. It feels less "whipy" to me. I think the 6.0's are the way I'm going to go. Just wanted to get some reinforcement from the field. Thanks guys
