This is somewhat of a personal topic for me but I recently read a Sports Illustrated article that got me a little fumed. In the article it described Howell III as an underachiever - which considering his college record there is little doubt - but it also talked about how Charlie has worked with Leadbetter since he was 12 and has now recently moved on to working with a guy down at Sea Island, GA.

This is personal to me because I am finally going to call BS on this. Charlie has worked with Leadbetter for years but has also worked with a different teacher in Atlanta - whom I worked with - since Charlie started playing golf. Every single time that Charlie went to Leadbetter his swing would fall apart. Then he would come back to Atlanta and would have to start all over again.

I have kept quite for a long time but I am pretty sick of Leadbetter getting any success for Charlie's swing. If anything, Leadbetter should get credit for making him 143rd in the World. But that's just me.

Oh, one more thing. If you think I am somehow making this up, probably 30 or 40 videos to prove it. I like Charlie - I really do - but I wish he would give credit to everyone who teaches him and not just the guy with the name.

I wouldn't call anyone who made the PGA tour an underacheiver. I never though much of leadbetter. I really feel like his videos and show are snake oil.

Just to be clear about why I call him an underachiever. Charlie used to be one of the longest and most accurate drivers of the golf ball I have ever seen. His irons were the same. Honestly, there wasn't a lot of question in our minds that he was going to be a rival for Tiger. Check his college record - especially his scoring records - and you'll see just how scary of a player he was to go up against.

Charlie just doesn't have it between the ears yet. But I think he will be a late bloomer - kinda like Ben Hogan. He is so obsessed with the mechanics of the swing really reminds me of the Hawk.
