To answer your question: why not try and go for short par 4's. The worst that will happen is you are chipping or in a bunker. My question for you is: Are you 7 feet tall? and if not, why did your pro put you in a 48 inch shaft? There are only like 2 shafts that even come in that length. Your pro may have been drunk when he fit you.

Ummm.....seriously there are about 20+ shafts that come that length or longer. And you dont have to be 7' tall. A good ball striker yes. But height is not the deciding factor in shaft length. My Club builder is 5'6 on his toes and SMASHES a 47"

Here are some long drive shafts. House of Forged, LDA Throttle, Javelin CW, Whup N Shaft, Mutant Revolution, Power revolution, Pure adrenaline, Savage Competition, Tantrum PG, Titan DG Just to name a few.

i asked for the 48 inch ...LOL. I figured it could always be cut down, or i would grip down....but im using every bit of it and 4 inch tee's...i lift when i swing ...ONly with a driver ...bud of mine tried using it...he said its like swinging a 2x4.

well I live in northern NJ...so I kind of want to drive down to DE (can make it there in an hour and a half about)... i'll drive wherever to play golf man. and I wanna see how well I can play that course.... probably not too well..but whatever!

I know Im probably gonna hear @##$ for this one but....

heres what i would do. spend some time at the range working on control and dont try and kill every drive you take. slow the swing down and yes you will lose some distance but gain accuracy. given the handicap i would also forcus on irons, chippings and putting. Or you could just rip at it and hit as hard as you can get the swing speed up to 130 or so and who knows maybe drive the par 4s and 3 put for par .... fairways and greens its not just a tee shirt.

So when you had the 48" put on, did they remove any weight from the head? If not the swing weight is WAY heavy. The heavier swingweight is possibly slowing your swing down and there's another reason to go to the shorter shaft, it's just making you work harder: swinging and striking the ball.

Your whole point of this thread is "What would you do?" so to directly answer the question I'd go down to a 44" shaft and hit the ball in the center of the face and the center of the fairway about 280-300 (your swing speed should have NO problem generating this distance with standard equipment) and just generally beat the hell out of people at GOLF, not a long drive competition.

I dont know...but another guy told me the ability to come around with a 48 is increasing the speed...further from the fulcrum. Time is an issue..if I went to a 44 then I would need lessons badly. If the rules permit a 48 then I am honing it in with that ...and having fun....If i had started as a teen I wouldnt be having this issue. im high 30's` please let this post die.....

dude... with a swing speed like yours... and the distance you get...

i still think you need lessons... you would be deadly with the proper knowledge of the game... and dont think it beneath you to take lessons cuz youre a long hitter... you are a very high hcp... even tiger takes lessons

Fix up your swing. You'll hit more fairways. So what if you lose 10 yards of distance, you'll still be driving it as long as a Pro. Than just work on your short irons, wedges, and putting. You'll see your handicap drop drastically.

44" would be easier that 48" that's the point and you're not getting it. Whatever man, some people use logic I just can't follow. Have fun & swing away.

    • The highlights as I see them: Championship and Challenger Series The creation of the PGA Tour and the PGB Tour, in the words of Joel Dahmen a few years ago. They're calling them the Championship Series (23-24 events) and the Challenger Series (20+ events). Both run February to August. They feel this will achieve three things: increasing the consistency and quality of fields across the season creating a clear system for players to earn and retain status and delivering a more structured and competitive experience for fans and partners—all in an effort to strengthen meritocracy. Championship Series Structure and Eligibility The 23-24 events includes the Players, majors, season-ending events, and the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup. These will be 72-hole events with a 36-hole cut to the top 65 and ties and purses of $20M+. 120 players without an alternate list. 90 players (roughly) from the previous year and 20 players promoted from the Challenger Series. Full eligibility will be finalized later this year. Sites (cities) to be finalized soon, but 10 of the 15 courses have already been determined. Postseason: includes retention and relegation and concludes with match play. The Tour Championship will also be played across a rotation of prestigious courses. Challenger Series Structure and Eligibility 20+ events. Running concurrently. Will feature players fighting their way back to the Championship Series or players graduating and on the upswing from the Korn Ferry Tour. Many of these events will be current PGA Tour courses. About 7 of the Challenger Series events will be during off weeks for the Championship Series with elevated purses and visibility. Purses of at least $4M, with cuts similar to the Champ series. 144 player fields. Competitive Fields for Both Series Players will be eligible for only one series at a time: Championship Series Players are not eligible for Challenger Series events. Championship Series members will have a known schedule with all events having the same eligibility. Players and Majors will have their own eligibility criteria. Championship Series players don't have to play all events. This begs the question about, say, the Canadian Open, and other "home-town" events that players might want to play, even if they're Challenger Series events. Will releases be granted? Promotion and Relegation At least 90 players will be retained in the Championship Series, and 20 players will be promoted from the Challenger Series each year. Battlefield promotion for two-time winners from the Challenger Series. Players relegated from the Championship Series will have a "last chance" opportunity to retain status, or will go to the Challenger Series. Criteria will be finalized before the start of the 2027 season. Points System New points system (not FedExCup points). Separate points systems for the Championship and Challenger Series. Elevated points in the Challenger Series for off-weeks on the Championship Series. More details tk. Elevated International Events in the Fall The fall schedule will include a limited series of elevated international events with top players from the Championship Series, with the intent to deliver in partnership with the DP World Tour as part of the Strategic Alliance. Last Chance Series The Tour will develop a “last chance” series of 4-6 events in the fall, with a limited number of spots on the Championship Series available for top finishers. Eligibility will include players relegated from the Championship Series, Challenger Series players, and other categories to be determined. Q-School continues, as do the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour Latinoamerica. Also, Brian Rolapp is the new commissioner as of January 1, 2027.

    • Yes, because you have lifted to like 120° without bending the left elbow. So when you turn and the left elbow bends… it bends in such a way that you then lower your left humerus and pull the club around you.
