Club Fitting With My Irons

I have never been fitted for clubs and I'm not real familiar with the process but I was just wondering if there are places that will custom fit my irons instead of buying new ones because I absolutely love my DCI's but I really would like to get fit for them.

Every reputable fitter should be able to do this for you. From experience, this is what he or she should do:

1) Check the lengths of all your irons and make sure that they are correct. 2) Check the weight of each of your irons to ensure consistency. He or she should do this for flex, too. 3) Have you hit on a lie board to find the correct lie. Assuming that your shaft flexes are correct to your swing, the only worry you would have is length. Then it's up to you to decide if you want to invest in new shafts. Note, though, that you could purchase extenders but this might change the flex of your shaft. The fitter can tell you this by giving you an exact flex number called CPM.

Don't forget to check your grip size.

Also be sure that your irons are set at the standard lofts. I could not believe how much my irons were off when I got them in the loft and lie department!

A fitter may also frequency check your shafts to ensure that they are all consistent. Depending on how much you want to spend, you could have your irons matched for swingweight or MOI. Swingweight is how the club's weight feels in relation to the length of the shaft. MOI matching is matching clubs based on their MOI (resistence to turning about the shaft). If you have a lower MOI about the shaft in your 3 iron than in your wedge, you'd have less resistence to rotating the 3, so you may draw it more than your wedge. My irons are matched by swingweight because it's much easier (and more "standard" to do.

They'd also check loft, lie, length, and grip size. If they hook you up to a computer, you can see exactly how far you hit each of your clubs. That way you can have a club bent a degree weak or strong to fit your gaps more evenly. All of this really depends on how much you want to spend and how competant the fitter is.
