Getting fitted for some irons and was just wondering on what kind of steel shaft to put on them. I have seen some stories of cheap shafts making the clubs have bad feel to them or not hitting well. They are going to be trimmed down a little and in senior flex. So any ideas on which shaft is appreciated.

Since you're getting senior flex I'm assuming you're slightly older in age and might want something a little higher in flight. Maybe try the DG Dynalite High or the PX high launch

Well i am a little younger and have a tendency to hit the ball low. Maybe i should go with something else, or would those be good options either way? I am very confused as to what to get. Thanks

There is now a Dynamic Gold High Launch as well. I have not hit them, but having hit the old Dynamic Gold SL (which was a lightweight shaft with higher launch than the standard DG) I think they might be a good fit in a R flex. Depending whether or not money is a concern, it might be worth checking into getting graphite in your irons as well. Graphite shafts in irons have come a long way in the last few years. They do not really have the same control issues that they used to, but are much lighter and will really help you get the ball in the air easily. I've read good things about the Aldila irons shafts (green shaft) and on the few occasions I have hit demo clubs with them I have liked the feel. The only downside to graphite these days is that they are a bit more expensive (at least if you get good shafts).

I recently went to a senior flex in my irons and driver. I did this because 1.I hit the ball low, 2. I have a smooth tempo 3. I tried them first and was amazed at their performance FOR ME. Now I'm carrying my 7 iron 150-155 and which is about 5 yards farther and on a much higher trajectory than before.

The point of that is this...here is someone else that can and does play with senior flex, graphite no less. JMHO the Nippon 950 is an awesome steel shaft for that type of swing. I'm not sure if they have a model designated "senior" but I'd give them a look anyway. When I hit them I got a solid feel with a nice high flight and plenty of spin. Maybe consider them on the short list?

Good Luck!

any iron shaft that has a higher launch...it doesn't really matter that much considering your handicap. Lets remember tiger and AK both played with clubs that were too heavy and stiff for them growing up.

If your being fitted with a compentent fitter he should be able to put in the proper shafts...

All right thanks everyone... defiantly gonna look at all the different ideas you all had, and hope that one works well.

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
