I don't usually top the ball ... but i started topping some yesterday and couldn't stop ... i remember this happened one round last year ... how do i stop it once it starts? I'd been striking really well until i topped a couple and the confidence just drained!!

I would play the ball a little farther back in my stance and take 3/4 shots. I make better, more consistent contact when I play 3/4 shots. You may too. If you move the ball back, you'd force yoursef to hit down on the ball. You're probably lifting your head, so try concentrating on keeping it down.

Was at a clinic that Boo held last week on our home course. A lady asked him this very question.

He felt the topping was most likely the results of swaying.

He had a practice drill that he did using a beachball placed between his legs....held it in place throughout the swing.

He pured a few shots with this ball in place.

Great tip...one of many he offered up.

without seeing your swing, I'd say don't be afraid to take a divot. Hit a few fat ones at the range on purpose just to get the feel. Also Boo's tip from earlier is a great one.

Thanks for the post. I actually just came back from the range a few hours ago and began topping a few of my Irons like I haven't done...for a very long time. I hit my wedges, 9 & 8 pretty well but I just topped about six straight with my 7 and couldn't fix it :(

Was pretty frustrating and never got it right...I think so much of it is mental, though.
