Alright, I have a taylormade r5 with the stock shaft in it and I was wondering how to get fit to the right shaft. I like the driver I have now, and I dont want to go to buy a new club just to get the right shaft. I am on a budget and I heard having the right shaft for your swing can increase yardage and decrease shot dispersion. Thanks.

You need to go to a facility with a launch monitor. I played golf for years with the both the wrong flex driver shaft and one with an inappropriate flex point for my swing type. I was shocked at what my real swing speed was as opposed to what I thought it was. However, fair warning, this is just part of the equation. The next thing I did was take a series of 3 lessons; that combination is not the only way but one of the best ways to improve. Hope that helps.

Not a stupid question at all, the shaft is the engine that drives the swing. Like zubady said, go to a facility with a lauch monitor, you will be surprised by the difference.

The shaft is the most important part of the club. Go see a clubfitter with a launch monitor, or better yet, with a fitting system where they can interchange the shafts and hit balls on the range so you can actually see the ball flight. Taylor Made, Callaway, Nike, Titleist and others have these fitting systems.

If you assemble your own clubs, once you find the right shaft, consider having it pured. This process aligns the shaft along the plane of uniform repeatability. In English this means that the shaft will flex on the same plane every time you swing. Most PGA Tour pros have their shafts pured, and having had it done to my driver I can say it's worth it's weight in gold.

Yeah, I get how a launch monitor can show the difference, but is there any way for me to keep my r5 head and get fit to the right shaft?
