OK, so i was reading this article by Geoff Ogilvy,
http://www.golfdigest.com/equipment/...9/04/ogilvybag

he has a 44 degree 9 iron, and then a 49 degree vokey PW.

I hate my PW. i hate pulling it because i have zero confidence in it. So, has anyone else played a wedge bent to 48-49 degrees in place of their sets PW? I thnk i might pick up a vokey 50 and just bend it down a degree or two and have my 2-9 bent a degree or two weak? any pros or cons to doing this?

Why not just pick up

a 48° Vokey , no bending necessary?

Why not leave the rest of the set the same and just bend the 9 one degree weak? Then you can either bend your PW 2 degrees weak, or buy the 50* Vokey and bend it one degree strong. That way you've got 39* 8-iron, 44* 9-iron, 49* PW and your 54* sand wedge.

Actually my old set of DCI 990's had a 44.5* 9 iron and 49* PW, which was a decent setup. Nothing wrong with changing the loft of a club by only .5* if it helps you keep consistent yardage gaps, so that's another option to do some slight tweaking.

In my opinion that would be your best bet, because you'd be keeping the same gap of loft in all your short irons (I know degrees doesn't necessarily = distance gap, but in my experience it's held pretty true), and you wouldn't be creating an even larger gap between your 2 iron and fairway wood.

As far as disadvantages, whether you weaken one or all of your irons, you're creating more bounce, which could be an advantage if you've got a steep swing plane or a huge disadvantage of you lay the club off or have a flat attack angle. That's a call you'd have to make though, if you're comfortable with the way the rest of your irons interact with the turf... I'd leave most of them alone.
