Does anyone have one?

If so, should I buy one or just spend the extra money and get a sky caddie?

I've had one for about a year (of course, back then it was just called the iGolf NEO). I had they money to buy one of the bigger devices at the time, but liked the size and simplicity of the NEO. There are a number of pluses to the NEO including the small size, but my favorite thing is the membership to download courses is NOT required. I have been downloading all of the courses I play and will probably not renew my membership this season. Once you download it you do not need the membership anymore. I believe with SkyCaddie you have to continue to pay membership fee to use the courses. The one complaint I have it that they have taken away the ability to edit the courses with their software. You can still edit the courses on the device, but not via their software. This may not seem like a big deal, but I liked it because when on course I could mark a spot then when I got home I could edit the name of that location. Another advantage to this is that I could look at a course file to see if it had changed. That's the other big complaint I have - some courses are not accurate (this is true of almost all GPS unit course files at times). There is no way to know from the website when/if the course file has been updated and when. I used to download the file and compare to what I have, but now it's more difficult to do that (except on course).

There are a number of GPS units ranging in prices from $150 up to about $500 and a lot of different ways to get the course files for those units (most have annual membership, but some come pre-loaded or per-course fee). The NEO size and very simple interface make it a good choice, especially when you consider that you might only need a 1 year membership to get all the courses you need (if you have friends who also have NEO you can share the course files this way and not have to become a member at all or share the membership fee of $35 or whatever it is now).

I have one and love it. Its best feature is its size. I just keep it in my pocket. It's bare bones basic in that it just tells you front, middle and back of the green but it does allow you to plot up to 4 other points per hole (haven't bothered with that yet).

It has tremendously helped my club selection on approach shots. I'm now confident I have the correct club in my hands when I'm standing over the ball and that's a big deal. All I have to do is execute.

Thanks for the imput guys.

I think I am just going to get one all I need are the basics, the more I think about it if I have to much information it will just make me think to much and who needs that.

    • Day 120 - Played 18; much better than yesterday. Miss right now is off the heel of the club, so I need to sort that out.
    • Today we played Pease Golf Course in Portsmouth, NH. Course was in great shape but my game didn't show up. I will say I pitched and chipped fairly well but almost everything else was very hit or miss. Cost myself a lot hitting an in play drive with pulling my approach shots maybe 85% of the time. Finally figured out I had been swaying most of the round. Only took me until 13 to figure it out. Used what felt like a much more centered turn and the ballstriking improved. 18 tomorrow using a 2 man scramble format. Just looking to contribute. Been a blast though.
    • Day 22: Hit balls with 7-iron using mevo+ to track dispersion. Was out for a long time after work; 86 balls but the first 50+ were 50% swings focusing on top of backswing feel and then just hitting the ball as a psychic reward. Finished with 20 balls close to full speed. Pretty happy with dispersion and also no horrendous misses. I’m chunking my priority piece out into two separate feels, first and more important is the position/balance at top of backswing which is what I was working on. Once I have that engrained I’ll move to transition part.
    • FWIW I never really had issues with the previous generation of Snells. But… I'm not sure I played them a ton, either.
    • I know Dean Snell designed the original Pro V along with a couple of other brands tour balls.  How exactly does the Snell ball have problems.  Did he change something in the design or is a manufacturing error since he cannot afford the unlimited R&D budgets of the big manufacturers to iron out flaws
