A mate of mine has a set of Titleist 695cb's that he's getting rid of and offered them to me - I'm keen because I love the idea of playing with forged irons for the first time. The issue is the shafts are 0.75 inch longer and the lie has been adjusted 2˚upright compared to standard - he's about 6'4 in height and I'm about 6'1.

My question is will the change in length and lie from my standard Tour Burners be an issue? Lengthwise I can always grip down a little but does 2˚Upright really make that much of a difference and if needs-be, can a club-fitter bend them back to standard? I think they were originally altered at Titleist in the States but any adjustments would have to be done here in Melbourne.

And what, if any, difficulties would I encounter if I had the lengths taken back to standard?

I've only ever hit them once and nailed it but I'll be heading down to the range tonight to have a better go.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Take them out to play for a few rounds and see if they work for you as is. Removing extensions is not difficult and bending forged heads is also not difficult.

The 2* upright lie can cause you to pull the ball. I don't have the specs in front of me, but I would venture to guess that your Burners are manufactured with a more upright lie than the 695cb's. If that's the case, the 2* upright may put you pretty close to what you've been playing. Like Buttuh (Love The Name!) said, you really just need take them out and get a feel for them.

If you decide you want to cut the added .75" from the clubs, I would recommend trimming them from the butt rather than the tip. Trimming from the butt will affect the clubs' performance the least. I would guess that it will only stiffen the shafts about 2-3 CPMs, which is really not much at all.

    • Day 445 - 2025-12-19 Hit some balls at AMGC today before getting on a flight and driving back to home through some not-so-awesome weather. The backswing is starting to feel pretty good. I have to clean up the knees a little.
    • Day 25: did my drill with foam balls in the garage for a good 20 minutes. Worked on my hands not being as deep.
    • I unknowingly ordered what would sort of be considered a staff bag. It is the 14 divider version of the Titleist staff bag and was stated on the website to be a staff bag "light" (Titleist Tour Premium Cart Stadry), but it is pretty big. Love it though.
    • Day 39 (19 Dec 25) - weekly men’s group shootout today - we had as a “fifth” in our foursome the course teaching pro.  With the solid winds playing havoc, it was great having him to offer insight and counsel on what to take into to account. Mind you, he did not recommend specific club but rather to what consider and how to plan.  What a great day for course management education at the next level.
