AS a beginner , just wonder how to choose good irons that fit for me well but not too expensive. Are there several factors to be considered ? I'm a low-handicap golfer after all . Forgiveness .

No offense, but I don't know of any beginning golfers that started out as a 13 handicap.

There are several factors to consider, first ... involving your swing and what you want to do with a golf ball.

Do you hit the ball high, low, mid-flight now? Does the ball skip once and stop or does it roll on you now? Do you push, pull or hit it straight? Is your swing fast, slow, medium?

These questions - when answered - will lead you to shaft torque, stiffness, bend (kick) point. Those answered will lead to swingweight and overall weight of each club. A good fitting helps with all of that. Then there's lie and loft angles and overall club length.

My advice would be to get fitted for proper clubs at a fitting shop (Golf Galaxy perhaps). You can always use the information to have clubs made, buy rack clubs or find a set on eBay that match those specs.

No pun intended, but I look at it like this: You can have your eyes tested at one doctor and fill the prescription anywhere. Once the doctor writes down your prescription, it's your knowledge then, use it anywhere. Once a club-fitting pro tells you that you need swingweight D.0, standard length, steel "R" shafts with a 1-degree minus lie, you can fit those specs anywhere.

Be fitted, golf better!
I make all my own clubs:

Totally agree about the fitting. Only thing to add to that is swing a lot of clubs in your price range, and just above. Once you find the set you like, start looking for deals. Save a little more if needed, and get a set that will last you for a while. By that I mean, one that you will be able to learn with and effectively lower your scores as you do.
