How big a difference are cheap iron golf club shafts (from a $100 club set) compared to more expensive iron club shafts (besides flex and weight)?

Depends on the person.

For a 36 handicap not much. For a low handicapper a lot.

A lot, shafts have tons to do with ball flight/launch angle all that good stuff.

Cheaper clubs "usually" have high launch angles to help players with less skills get the ball in the air. They are also usually very flemsy, and not uniform.

Personaly I'd rather have a good shaft that a good clubhead.

My iron shots off the tee/fairway, with my cheap club set, pretty much 7/10 times go straight down the line.

I've been wanting to create my own clubs with Golfsmith's Snake Eyes 675B clubhead line and with the Memorial Day Sale ($50 off purchases $250+) I can get them for $26 instead of $32.

I was just wondering if these clubheads are used on cheaper shafts, would it cause significant undesirable results compared to a cheap clubhead on a cheap shaft?

I know very little about making clubs, but in all honesty I really dont think your going to gain that much, maybe some better spin on the ball with better groves.

Shafts really arent that expensive. and for $200 and a couple days on ebay you can find your self some good used clubs that will more than likey out perform the ones you want to make because of the Shaft/clubhead combo.

If your just interested in making clubs I would say why not. But it could be a $200 lesson. I dont know...

I agree with the poster above. There are many older (3-5 years) sets that perform great in the 200 range on here and on Ebay it doesn't seem worth the effort.

I just purchased a very nice set of Taylormade LT2's in great condition for $215 shipped.
