I usually plays the E5+, but I have found a TP Red and decided to play it on the Par 5 18 yesterday. And because there was no one behind us decided to tee off a second ball with my usual E5+. The TP Red was about 20 yards further, I said to myself Ok must had a better swing. So I was at 190 yards (with my first drive TP Red) from the center of the green, I decided to go with my 3 hybrid wich usually plays 190 yards, end up past the green? Do you think is possible that the TP Red goes further than the E5+ or is just that I have made two great shot in a row? what do you think? Usual drive (when hit well and slice free is 250 yards or so).

I think the e5+ is suppose to promote a higher ball flight, so yes, very possible to get more distance from the TP Red.

Yeah, wanna make 14 dollars the hard way?

Possibly but that's way too small of a sample size to make a decision off of. Play a whole round with one and see how you feel.

I believe the TP red was designed for faster swingers while the E5 was designed for slower swing speeds. Could be wrong though.

Yes I know the sample is quite small :)

the problem is the TP Red are 50$ a dozen (up here), which is "ouch", I will give it a try until a loose the ball (hopefully not on the first hole :) )

Last year I was hitting lower than this year, maybe it's time for a change, Maybe I should try another ball like the E6+ or something else?

TP Red and Blacks are $55 for TWO dozen at most big sports stores right now.

Take your pick. I'm sure PGA superstore and Golfsmith have the same deal right now, but haven't seen it with my own eyes. Don't know shipping and all that is worth it for you, but it's like stealing here.

I'm guessing that it's a combination of the TP Red compression and flight characteristic that fit your swing better than the E5+.

this is what i was thinking also... plus you have to factor in swing speeds and trajectories and such

today only gppgolf.com is selling them at $20 per dozen.......... shipping is a steep... but if you buy enough dozens, maybe it's worth it?

according to most of the ball tests ive seen, the taylormades are way up there in total distance.... so maybe it is the ball? once you add more data you can get a clearer answer though!

Thank you for all your answers. I will try them (the black and the red).

I don't think we have access to the "Special" price here in Canada, will have to reach out for the calculator to figure out if ordering from the states is still a deal for me (I use do order a lot from the States when our C$ was in pair with the US$ but it is no longer the case, but I think the C$ is up again).

I must admit my driver swing (especially) feels much stronger this year than last year and it may not suit the E5 anymore.

thanx again for your time.

Yes, flopdarock is correct. Most retailers are selling the TP Red for $42/dozen or $55 for two dozen. I work in golf retail sales, and we have them priced the same.

In answer to your question, yes, you should see more distance with the TP Red. It is a ball that is designed for a lower trajectory and players looking for lower spin. The E5+ is more of a higher trajectory/higher spin ball which will turn into less yardage due to the softer core.

I confirm that the ball for me is longer than my E5+ and best of all has no fade (or tiny if any) at all. Just bought a sleeve of TP-Red and TP-Black for further testing purpose.

Do the current discounts have anything to do with the Red being declared non-confroming?

I understand they actually ARE conforming, but the factory screwed up and sent out some with the wrong cover/core combo (some fraction of 1%) which was non-conforming. Don't the new Reds have a sticker on the box and different logo on them?

I'm guessing TM got spooked and decided it was better to move the current inventory with a sale rather than have them sit on the shelves. I understand they are very good balls.

I marshall at a Private Country Club and find all kinds of balls, you name it and I have found and played with all.
I have a slow swing speed ~90 and like the Pro v1 for hitting into greens. For a all around ball the Zero Zip Wilson Staff is less $ and hits long.

No the sale doesn't have anything to do with the mixup because both the Red and Black are one sale. Also everything you'll find in the stores right now are the new ones.

i love how the taylormades fly... but i found a srixon trispeed on the course today and murdered it... played a few holes till i hit it too far on one and it sailed into the water... so now im rethinking my ball choice again
