I think heel shafted putters are more popular and look nicer, but i have asked a representative from a golf company about this and tests prove that center shafted putter give a more consistent and truer roll. I think that's pretty logical if you think about it.

I play a center shafted putter(see signature) and i like it. Although I admit I do kinda miss my heel shafted blade. Not performance wise, just looks wise.

When you're making putts though that gives you alot of confidence and lets you get past the looks difference.

The biggest difference I notice is that when you hit one off the toe on a center shafted putter it doesn't roll off line as far as a hit off the toe does on a heel shafted putter. I can't comment on the roll difference as my old blade was many years old so it wouldn't be a fair comparison.

I have long used a center-shafted putter and honestly do not like a heel-shafted putter. A center-shafted putter works really well for the straigth-back-straight through putter stroke that Dave Pelz pushes so much. This is sorta the stroke I have used now for about 15 years (my stroke does have a slight arc, but it's more square through stroke than many). This style stroke and putter work very well together because it requires less clubhead manipulation - it's easier to keep the clubface square through stroke. Personally, I have always had trouble with heel=shafted putters consistently getting them square at point-of-impact with either square-to-square stroke or arc stroke.

I use a straight back and through stroke as well.

Hi guys

In general, center shafted putters are faced balanced. If you hold the putter horizonal and balance it across your finger, the face of the putter will point straight up. In general, face balanced putters are more suited to the putter that putts straight back, straight through.

Of course when it comes to putting there are absolutely no absolutes.

Supposedly, center shafted putters are best for straight strokes and heel shafted putters are best for arching strokes. But I think it really just comes down to personal preference and confidence (just like everything else in golf!). Use whatever style putter helps you sink more putts.

for this reason (more consistent and truer roll), i'd like to try a center shafted putter. however, i like the look of the "offset" on an anser like putter. with the CS putters, they go straight in. something to adjust for and see what the results are like. think i will get the Rife Barbados CS.

anyone made a switch from offset to straight in shaft? did you have to adjust your set up and stroke?

    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
    • Day 1 - 2025-12-20 Starting a new streak, of at least 1. With rain dumping for the next week in the north bay area, I'll be a lot of outdoor net work and maybe some putting. About 10 minutes of 7 iron work, focused on the usuals: weight transfer, keeping hands behind me. I'll have more time in the coming days for video review and maybe some Hack Motion.
