I've been writing down my distances so that I know which club to use and when. My problem is in the gap between 180-220. I have Taylormade R7 draw irons up to 5 iron. I have a 3-4 hybrids but I don't hit them consistently out of the fairway or tee (though I hit them great out of rough) so I'm looking for a new club or two. So I can hit the 5 iron about 180, maybe 190 if I hit it perfect, but about 180 is more usual. I then use a callaTaylormade 2007 burner 3 wood from 220 to about 240. So my concern is to find one or two clubs to fill the gap. Would it be wise to get the Taylor made 2007 burner 5 wood and a burner hybrid? And if it got the hybrid what loft would be best? I'm looking for something to hit me 195-210 and 180-195. Any help would be appreciated.

You kind of painted yourself a corner with your question. You say that you don't hit your hybrids consistently, then say hit your 3 wood well, then you ask if you should get a 5 wood or a hybrid.

If you hit your 3 wood well, then I would get a 5 wood in that exact type and shaft. Absolutely.

But, the Adams hybrids are wonderful. You should look at them. They have the number one hybrid on the tours called the Idea Pro last year and the Idea Pro Gold this year. Then they have I think two other models that are more forgiving. I would say look at one of those in a 4 h about 23 degree loft and see how far you can hit it and then look at one more or one less than that. I traded in my old TaylorMade Rescue hybrids this spring and I love the Adams Idea Pro Golds with the red Matrix shaft.

Looks like you're looking at getting a couple clubs, so you'll probably spend anywhere from about $250 - $300. For that money, you could get at least 4-6 lessons with a good pro and learn how to hit the hybrids you've got, plus improve in others areas of your game as well. Just a thought.....

I had a somewhat similar situation. The advice that I headed was to take a couple of lessons instead of investing in another club. I have no regrets. Sounds like you already have the clubs to fill the gap, you just need to work on hitting them properly.

You know, two years ago I went through a similar situation. I could hit my 3 wood great, but could not hit any other club more than 165 yards. My 5 4 3 irons , my TaylorMade Rescue clubs. It took a lot of work, and I still can't hit my 4 or 3 iron very well, but it was well worth the money spent on lessons and the time spent practicing. Now my turn toward the ball is much better, and my approach to the ball is much shallower.

    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
    • Day 1 - 2025-12-20 Starting a new streak, of at least 1. With rain dumping for the next week in the north bay area, I'll be a lot of outdoor net work and maybe some putting. About 10 minutes of 7 iron work, focused on the usuals: weight transfer, keeping hands behind me. I'll have more time in the coming days for video review and maybe some Hack Motion.
