I'm taking a crack at building my own clubs, is anyone familiar with how to source non-clone components, specifically club heads.

the top line clubs (nike, callaway, mizuno, etc) do not sell only club heads. Places like Diamond tour sell clones. Hireko sells unique designs often called components. They do not directly clone clubs.

GolfWorks and Golfsmith also sell component heads but are house brands and are not clones.

THere are other companies that sell high end components, KZG, Tom Wishon, SMT, etc. However these are expensive and might not offer any savings over top line clubs. They are amazing quality though.

Check here, golfwrx, and that auction site for head pulls.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

In my opinion - after building many of my own clubs over the years - Golfsmith and Tom Wishon are top quality components, next would be Golfworks, then Heriko (who recently bought Dynacraft).

I disagree with the price breaks being less than top line clubs in that building your own gives you the luxury of custom clubs, i.e. shaft weight, torque, length, swingweight, etc.

My latest set rivals (mimics??) the Cobra series of clubs and I built my driver (see signature) for under $150. I think building clubs is a great alternative to "off the rack" clubs.

My opinion ...
I make all my own clubs:
Driver: Snake Eyes Python XLD | | 3-Wood: Snake Eyes Python XL Faiway, 15*  | | Snake Eyes HT Iron Set, 3-, 4-Utility, 5-, 6-Hybrid, 7-PW Cavity Back | | Golfsmith G-40 Wedges, 52, 56, 60 | | Distance Master DM-AS2 Putter | |Ball? The last one I found ... that... was YOURS!!
