Almost giving away anything with the name on it.
Always wanted a set. Can anyone tell me what to look for
in the Ben Hogan line ?

Looking for game improvement iron, no blades, perimeter weighting.
I am looking at a couple of sets and I see edge CFT and Apex edge,
to name a few.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Apex 50th Anniversary Blades, entire set is blades.

Apex FTX Forged are a mixed set where scoring irons are blades and longer irons are cavity backs.

Apex Edge (Pro), entire set of cavity backs.

Edge CFT are a mixed set as well where the 3-4 comes as hybrids and the rest comes as cavity backs.

I picked up a brand new set of Apex Edge CFT irons with the 3 & 4 hybrid for around $185 on ebay auction back in November from rockbottomgolf. I'm pretty sure they still have them.

In my stand bag:
Driver: XR-03
Irons: Apex Edge CFT (5-E)
Hybrids: Apex Edge CFT (3-4)
Wedge: Sure Out LWPutter: BombshellShoes: University

I picked up a brand new set of the Apex Edges today. I love them. They were a steal, they're so beautiful and they're so easy to hit. I highly recommend them.

They are some great classy looking irons. What did you pay for them if you don't mind me asking.

$300 brand new. You may be able to find them cheaper, but I was planning on spending $800-900 for a new set; so I still feel like I got a huge steal :D

Yeah, that's a great price. Some great prices had for Ben Hogan clubs since they are being shut down. I've been on the look out for some super steals. Already have the Apex Edges and the Apex 50 blades.

I would suggest the Hogan Edge Plus ('06) model that are game improvement perimeter weighted irons as you are seeking.

The design is a 'pocket cavity' which not only provides ample perimeter weighting, but also magnifies feedback. Others that use pocket cavities are Mizuno MP52, Titleist AP2, Bridgestone J32.

Looking for game improvement iron...

You want the edge. I play the apex plus, which before they came out with the edge was traditionally thought by many to be the "easiest to hit forged club". You can still get a set of them new for around 300 dollars.

Made it over to Golf Galaxy which is advertising the Edge and the CFT sets.
The CFT set was 3-E w/o the Hybrids for $199. That would be a great starter set
w/ the hybrids for that price. The Edge set looks great and they are forged too.
That set is $299. I wonder what these were going for before the clearance prices ?
$700-800 ?

What a mark up on clubs ! I'm guessing there are being sold at or below cost to get rid of them.

Im pretty sure Callaway is ditching the Hogan line; so get them at a steal while you can!

    • Good advice. In general, you want to take whatever weight you are lifting to a couple of reps before failure, for muscle growth. There are other tactics for PT related stuff. I would trust your PT person.  For muscle growth, you can go like 30 reps to failure. It is tougher to gauge. Also, it takes 2x as long to do the same number of working sets per week if you are doing 15 instead. It is way less efficient, but your case is special because of the injury/aggravation to the hip.
    • Several years ago I got paired with a twosome of golfers, one of which had a maybe 5-year-old son with him. The kid had a putter and a 7i with him, and on some holes he would drop a ball near the green, chip on, and putt. If the kid started to get distracted, the dad would ask, "Do you need to rest?" The kid would nod yes, and then take his dad's seat riding in the cart for a couple of holes. It was a slow day, and the kid was polite and friendly. We got through 18 just fine. (If it had been a crowded course day, I'm sure it would have been less pleasant.)
    • Caution for the seniors on weight training: Listen to your body. (I'm 75) I got a recent session with an orthopedist after a training-related injury. I put too much weight on a new resistance machine at the gym and ended up with bursitis in my left hip. Of course, it's the hip I dislocated back in 2023. I have my first physical therapy session tomorrow. I remarked that some days I can do 45 lbs. chest press - two sets - without much effort. But other days it drops down to 30 (😩) with just one set. (Complicating factor: I had digestive problems in this fall and lost about 20 lbs., with slip in muscle tone.) Orthopedist said that I want to feel some resistence, but that I should go with lots of reps with manageable weights rather than trying to set some sort of lift-pound record. I'm sure I'll get some refinements on lifting during tomorrow's PT.
