My wife "wants" to start learning to play golf, and Ive decided to buy her a used ladies set to learn with. I want to buy her something thats going to encourage her to go out and play (meaning colors are a plus, lightweight shafts are a plus, game improvement is a plus) but I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars to see her use it once and then move on.

Ive found 2 decent sets on craigslist, but I can't find ANY information about them on the internet and I dont want to get stuck with a dud. Can anyone provide any info?

The first is a ladies Hagen set. It comes with a driver, a 4,5,and 6 hybrid, a 3 wood, a 5 wood, 7-pw/sw and putter. Im pretty sure its the one they sell for about $199 new at Dicks Sporting Goods.

The second is an Affinity XP Extreme Flex set. They are listed as a "complete set with bag" but thats all I could find out. The owner has little knowledge about them.

Any ideas?

I suggest going to 'play it again' for a set, great deals and they usually have a TON of womens sets.

I tried, but the only righty womens set they had used was a square 2 set that looked like it was 20 years old :(

that sucks, well atleast when she bangs them on the ground you wont care ;)

I'd say anything under 300 for a set is a good deal, just make sure its "cute"

are the set my fiance` is looking at. She's super frugal so she's waiting until she feels comfortable, but they look and feel great. the bag seems quality and they're "cute" :)

I found a set of Wilson ProStaff oversized Women's irons (4-pw) with a driver, 3, 5, and 7 wood AND a nice bag at a used shop for $30. Pretty good deal right?

The only problem is that my wife wants a mallet putter and a bigger driver. Is this going to end up being more than just getting her the Hagen set? Is the driver/putter in the hagen set any good, or is it better to get these irons (which I assume are just as good)

Should I just get her to use the default driver in the Wilson set or will this hinder her game? I used the same driver for years, and just recently upgraded to my new Taylormade Burner driver

Been playing just a few months but I play almost every day.

What's in my bag: Distance Master Driver, Maltby Trouble Out woods/hybrids, Maltby KE4 Irons (all assembled by me so I can never blame my equipment).

Just be glad you get to pick the set (and control how expensive it will be). When we went out to get my wife her first set, of all the sets we looked at (3 different stores mind you) she picks a set of Mizunos. The Tava's are nice, but a grand for her first set......yikes! At least she has good taste in clubs though.

As money is tight, I've been using the same set of irons for 10+ years. It was my very first set, and while they aren't excellent, I don't think they necessarily limit my play by that much. I do have an upgraded driver, however.

I just can't fathom spending more than about $200 on my wifes set, mostly because she can't have nicer clubs than me :)

As I said in my previous post, I've now got three to choose from. Which would you pick of these three specifically:

1. Lady Hagen new set from Dicks Sporting Goods (4,5,6 hybrids, 7-pw graphite irons, driver, 3, and 5, and mallet putter. bag. light blue) -$125
2. Affinity XP Extreme Flex used from craigslist. Haven't seen them yet, but lady says graphite shafts and light blue with bag. - $85
3. Wilson Prostaff oversized women's set. 4-pw, driver, 3, 5, and 7 wood. graphite shafts. Callaway BJ-5 putter. bag. - $30
