I've been playing a new driver, and occasionally I absolutely bomb it and I love it... but more often than not, I am inconsistent with it. I find that I am finding the bottom of the clubface (almost thinning shots) and/or the heel of the club way too often with this club and only this club.

I also play about a 5-7 yard fade with the driver when every other club in the bag is either dead straight or has a 2-3 yard draw. Strange as it sounds, this makes me feel good because if it was a swing flaw, I would see it with more clubs than just the driver.

Anyway, I just can't feel the clubhead during the swing and I'm wondering if adding lead tape will help me with one or (I can hope, right?) all of these problems...

I'm aware that adding lead tape to the head of your driver will not change the COG unless you add a TON of it, so that's not my concern here... but I am curious if anyone has had any positive experience tinkering with lead tape to fix a similar problem.

My wedges are D-7, my irons are D-6 (ish), my 3 wood and hybrid are around D-5/6, and my Driver is just D-4... which I think may be the problem.

What do you think about adding a few strips to increase the SW to at least D-5?

I forgot... my other thought is that I switched from a 975J (312cc) to the 905R (460cc) and maybe I am having a little bit of trouble squaring the bigger face at impact?

Would adding the tape to heel help this? Or if I add any tape, where on the head should I place it?

Thanks for any help.

For every two you put on the heel, put one on the toe and one in the back. You don't want to move the CG too much. The shaft's longer, the clubhead's quite a bit larger AND lighter, so it's easier to not only move the CG with a driver but also to add swingweight.

Don't over-do it. Easier to add a bit than take it away.

Fair enough, thanks for the tip. Didn't think about doing that. So you think adding a bit more to the heel is the best way to go to help square the face a bit more?
