2010 British Open

Next summer my son is graduating from high school here in NJ and I'm planning on taking him to the British Open in St ANdrews. I don't want to do the whole package deal. Being English I know how to drive on all those crazy narrow lanes. Does anyone know how to buy tickets for the event. Also, I would love to play golf up there and could use some recommendations. I would love to play at St Andrews but am nowhere near good enough to play the old course. If the Royal and Ancient even found out I was thinking of playing the old course they would start rebuilding Hadrian's wall to keep me out.

We have over a year to plan this but its a great project.

Cara is right. Tickets can be booked through randa.org, as well.

Courses: try the 'New Course', which some say is even better than the Old. And there's another new one there, too. Can't remember the name. All the East Coast Open courses are not far away - Carnoustie, Muirfield, within an hour or so's drive. Loads and loads and loads of inland courses, many owned by the local councils (as is the Old course - the world's most famous 'muni'!) so quite easy to book on and play. Generally in good condition, too.
