I decided recently to get back into golf after a lay off of 9 years. I did not want to invest a lot of money to get started so I searched for used clubs. I ended up finding all the clubs listed in my signature below on craigslist. I got everything but the bag for $225. The clubs are in excellent condition. They are an older model, but apparently sat in the box in a supply closet until last year when the seller got his dad to give them to him. He played with them for one year and then upgraded this year to newer clubs. They all (except the SW) have regular flex graphite shafts and the original Cobra grips that look perfect. He threw in the Nike SW which has a steel shaft for free. I picked up the Maxfli walking bag on clearance for $40 and a FootJoy glove for $10. Now, I just need shoes, putter, balls and tees and I think I'm ready.

1. Did I get a good deal on the clubs?
2. What are some putters I should look at before buying?
3. What golf shoes are durable, comfortable and affordable?

Thanks for the great forum.

1. A good deal is very relative to the person who buys it. If they fit your game and hit them well then it definitely is a great deal.

2. Check www.gppgolf.com for Ping G2i or G5i putters for $50. These are mallet style putters with inserts which help keep the putts straight.

3. For golf shoes, check some online vendors' clearance sections. www.rockbottomgolf.com has some really good deals on shoes. Comfortability you won't know until you try them out and will mainly depend on getting the right size. If you'd like to save money by going with an online vendor, you can go to a retail store and try on different brands to see which size fits you best.

i believe that you got a pretty good deal. In fact I saw that same listing on Craigslist and almost pulled the trigger a couple of times.

I think it was a good start for me. In the end, I'll probably upgrade the woods to something newer and add another wedge. Right now, my priority is to get a putter so I can at least play a round.
