I am considering a new hybrid. My only experience with them is a first generation 16 degree TM Rescue that I carry in lieu of a 3 wood. I hit my current hybrid anywhere from 210-250 with almost no ability to control the distance. So its useless if I am 225, because if I pure it (which almost never happens) I air mail the green. I think the shaft might be too stiff for me, or its just a bad fit. I don't hit it well from uneven lies or out of the rough, which is what they are supposedly made for, right? So I end up hitting my 2 iron from these lies, and it is equally unpredictable.

So I'm thinking of getting a 3 wood, dropping the 2 iron and finding a new hybrid to fill the gap between the 3 iron and the 3 wood. I generally hit the 3 iron 210-215, and I am expecting to hit a 3 wood about 245-255. So I would like to have a hybrid that I could consistently hit 220-230. Does anybody have a recommendation? How far should I expect a 19 degree to carry?

Thanks for reading all of this!

Well, your 16 degree rescue is what I use as a 2-hybrid, and if you are drilling that too far then looking at your gaps perhaps a 3-hybrid is where you need to go. I use a 2-H and 4-H myself, and just hit a draw with the 4-H if I need a little more oomph, but a 19 degree club might be your ticket. My personal preference is for Tour Edge hybrids, but my back up clubs (which I hit just as well) are Nike Slingshots. If you're looking for something to try, the Slingshot is a couple years old, and I'm pretty sure you could pick up a 3-H (new) for about $50-60. It's a good looking club, and super-easy to hit.

Check out Adams Idea Pro Gold 18º, looks like that might be a perfect fit for you. They come stock with either a Mitsubishi Javln or a Matrix Ozik shaft.

Thanks for the input! I have no experience with Tour Edge stuff, but I have heard great things. I just picked up a 3 wood today, that so far.... I love. I tried a friends 17 degree TM rescue and I didn't care for it, but I think the shaft might have been a little too stiff for me. I have read that the Adams hybrid is the most used on the Tour, so I'll have to check that out too.

Thanks Again for the ideas!

Love mine. And yes they are no 1 on tour. The new model this year looks different than last years so you may want to look at both. The newer one is more forgiving.

If you get the newer one, I recommend the Matrix shaft. I have the Matrix shaft in my 20 and 23, and the Javln in my 26, and the Matrix is crisper. Absolutely what you want for the distance you are after. I got a good deal on a used 26 with the Javln shaft. It is ok for a 5H and for bunting out of the rough and for chipping around the green, but with that shaft it is not as much fun to hit as my Matrix shafts. They simply sparkle when hit. And yes, I have noticed that some guys get too excited with hybrids and end up with a few clubs that all hit out there in three wood range. I don't understand it. Unless you have a specific par 5 or par 3 on a course you always play that needs something x yards less than you hit your 3 wood.

Id say a 17 degree Nickent 4dx utility would be great. Check it out, I bought mine for 40 bucks new in plastic on ebay.

    • Day 444 - 2025-12-18 Light day of hotel room work. GEARS Summit v2.0 today. Good day.
    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
