A lot of new bags have the club dividers lined with sponge rubber which has an outer membrane of material with holes in it, which, in the shops looks as if it will be great for protecting the clubs' shafts.

Problem is, it wears out after a year or so, leaving the hard plastic armature which damages graphite shafts very quickly.

Short of putting tape on my wood and hybrid shafts and pushing my (new longer socked) headcovers well down into the bag, has anyone found a solution to this problem?

And - is anyone aware of whether this damage to the shafts is only a problem after many years or if it is something not to worry about at all?

I think I prefer the old velvet style dividers.

The plastic on some bags is a little rough while other bags' plastic isn't so rough. The wear your shafts will get depends on which plastic the bag company uses. I've seen a friends' $200 shaft get stripped of paint in a month (of playing/practicing everyday). He was angry about it since he sells clubs on ebay a lot.

I think you'd be best off buying a bag that still uses the velvet style cloth to cover the plastic. Even old PING Hoofers still haven't worn out yet. The stuff lasts forever. Other than that, you could tape some electical tape around the plastic dividers. It's the only non-unsightly option I could think of.

Buy a better bag? I've not had this sort of problem with any of my Ogio bags, which don't have that foam. I also really like their Woode system in general.

I have not had this problem with my ping and titleist bag's either. My advice would be to buy a higher quality bag and take better care of it.

The bag I'm talking about is an Ogio Exodus.

I like everything else about the bag, except the two cooler pockets which are too small to hold any drink container I've ever seen.

I'm not sure how I can take better care of it. I'm talking about where the clubs rest on the dividers.

I do play 18 holes twice a week, 52 weeks of the year, so maybe it's just normal "wear and tear"

I also have an Ogio cart bag - the Atlas I think - and it doesn't exhibit anything like you're saying. Very little wear and tear.

I always walk with a push cart, so the clubs are resting at about 45 degrees or so and generate friction which wouldn't exist if the bag was sitting vertically on a powered buggy. Just interested, Iacas --- how do you use yours? Mine is about 18 months old. I would say 160 rounds approx.

    • They sure do. 158 with an 8 iron is on the high end for me
    • Went back to controlling my knees. That part was getting a bit sloppy when I worked on my backswing. Right hip didn't slide or gain internal rotation. I would just rotate back and around and the left knee would be in a bad spot. Really focusing now on keeping my left knee very stable and straighter in the backswing. I can't go back to the old pattern of overturning the hips. I was returning to my old pattern to time my downswing. Turn forever.  Left knee controls both knees and hips, acting as an anchor. Feel like it straightens a bit.   Hinge sooner and faster. Not in a way that sends the hands out and flips the club over. I still noticed when the hands get to A2.5, the hands would want to flip over and flatten the club out a ton.  Still trying to figure out how to roll the forearms a bit open and not just roll the club inside a ton.  Figure out the timing to get the hands down. Still getting a bit of right elbow collapsing in the downswing because the arms are too high when I turn. Everything is happening sooner now. If the hips are controlled, the backswing is shortened. Because it is shortened I don't know when to get the hands down and I just turn because the downswing is a go.  Very slow (50%) swings are decent.
    • Distances look fine, no?
    • Day 207-12 Wider backswing and arm reconnecting in downswing. Did a much better job with proper wrist movements through downswing today.
