Just a question to see if i'm capable or not. How do the pros that do it get the really wide draws and fades. I'm talking about really wide.

Another thing... How do i get more backspin with my lob. If i'm hitting a full shot, about all i'm getting is a couple hops then it will come sit back in the divot, or go by the divot about 1 foot. Another thing is i have the vokey spin milled, and i can hit short chips and get them to check, but my friend has the cg 12 and his bounced twice and stopped on a dime, where mine rolled out to about 5 feet after checking. We both had pro v1's and were in a scramble, and it really looked like we had the same swing. can someone please help.

That chip shot was from like 10 yards, so how did ge get backspin, and i get roll.

How open as his club compared to yours? did he come down on the ball and apply more spin than you?

I'm sure if you saw a super slo-mo video you would see different ball contact. He obviously applied more back spin than you.

to get a huge draw is infinitely easier than getting a big fade, like if you're trying to hit it around a tree for instance. strengthen your grip and come from far inside and finish low and well left of your left shoulder. you'll draw it 90* if you do all that. as far as getting backspin around the green, that is much easier than you think. bring the club back slowly, but not very far, then drive the clubface through the ball quickly and take a considerable divot. this will give you all the spin you'll ever want around the green. although, i'm not quite sure why you'd need it. i'm usually trying to get my balls to release more. but first and foremost, make sure your grooves are clean.

it sure looked like the same shot, but idk. How do i apply more back spin on really short chips like that?

also, if you give your club a little snappy snap snap with the wrist like you're popping a whip at the bottom of the swing just as you're hitting the ball, this will give you incredible spin because of the lag created. but to get it right takes a bit of practice.

Can I ask why you're so damn concerned with getting backspin? Really not that big of a deal.

Why do I? The first reason is its my business, and the second is, because I will have more control over my shots.

haha, dude, you're not going to have any more control on your shots if you're spinning them back like on T.V.

And i understand that. Just depends on the green, I can put some spin on my 6 iron, but why can't i with my vokey. I don't like letting the ball roll, I want to hit it where i want, and it stop.

Well if your spinning your six iron and not your wedge, than your wedge's grooves much be shot, or your simply not striking the ball correctly...

Also to spin back/stop on a dime it needs to be into a little bit of a hill, extreme soft conditions, or into the wind - at least one of the three. You can't have rock hard, dry conditions, downwind, and hit the ball on a downslope and be like "Damn, why didn't it spin back or at least stop on a dime?!"

no crap. Maybe that's whats wrong. jk. I know when i can spin the ball back, and i usually do, but i really think i should get more with my 60. Maybe my grooves are shot.

How long have you had the club?

It will be a year on thanksgiving

Well, forget it then, the grooves should still be fine on it.

thats what i was thinking. I guess i just need to get some more practice, even though i never have time for it sitting on an excavator. but thanks for the help guys

well its kinda hard to put spin on a shot if your 10 yards away. the harder you strike the ball the more spin you get. with my x tour wedge i need to be like 20 yards away with a pro v to get it to stop on a dime

    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
