time has come for me to switch to an x-stiff for my driver, and hybrid, so i decide to search the internet for a shaft that seemed to fit me. im looking and looking and i realize i dont know what any of the shaft terminiology means. i was wondering if u anyone could tell me what words like torque, weight of club, spinrate, and all that good stuff means and what it affects. much appreciation thanks.

oh yeah i was also wondering if the rifle spinner shafts dramatically increase spin on wedges... if thats what they r spose to do... lol

i swing at about 115-120, my currnet shaft feels weak, and my coach suggests that i should switch to an extra stiff. also does anybody recommend a certain shaft? hopefully after i decide whiich shaft sounds good i will go to golfsmith and hopefully they will have some extra stiff shafts that i can demo on the launch monitor.

cantputt,

Trying to fit you over the internet is about as effective as expecting a horse to play a piano. Your swing is the number one factor for which determines which shaft brand and flex you should play. Get to a clubfitter with a good reputation and expect to spend some money for their time ($30-50). . . Even clubmakers have to put food on the table. If your coach is so confident that you need an X flex, perhaps HE should reccomend one for you? As far as rifle spinners, they're extremely soft tipped shafts that suit players who like a lot of feel in their wedges and don't take more than a 3/4 swing. Any more and you're going to lose control of both trajectory and distance. Also, typically players who swing in the 115-120 mph range with the driver don't have trouble with spinning their wedges, it's usally NOT spinning them that becomes a problem!

oh no i can spin my wedges heh... i was just wondering what the rifle spinner shafts did. i currently started looking into shafts and stuff cuz i got curious.. i didint really know they were that a big of a deal till recently. i just dont udnerstand how a shaft can help put more spin on the ball. been playing golf for about 2 years and just started playing competititvely, yet after playing for so long i know nothing about clubs, shafts, etc.. i feel dumb =/

    • Mostly pull cuts to slices. Some random pull draw/hooks pending of I hit the toe.
    • What's the rest of that story? Where was the ball going?
    • The criticisms are starting already 🤣 U.S. Open pro criticizes Shinnecock green conditions: 'Bumpy' After playing his first practice round at the 2026 U.S. Open, Michael Kim offered a less-than-glowing review of Shinnecock's "bumpy" greens.   The sand, I don't care about that. If the greens didn't come back as well for latest aerification, that would be a bit of a blunder on Shinnecock I think.
    • Well, if your frame of reference spins twice during the swing, then Bryson's ab/adduction is more like 780 degrees so there! (Yes I'm being silly, but not sure it's any sillier than what your pal Andy is doing...)
    • Update: Brandon Sorsby has decided to enter the NFL Supplemental Draft. He will not play for Texas Tech in the upcoming season.  From my perspective, I think he did the right thing. I hope he gets the correct help for his gambling addiction. I say the right thing, because I would be worried that the stress from all of this now and throughout the entire year would not be beneficial towards his mental health.  If an NFL team picks him up, then there really isn't any pressure for him to play immediately. He can work on himself and his game for the NFL.  From Texas Tech,  "Texas Tech will continue to provide the support and recovery resources Brendan requires on this journey. Furthermore, Texas Tech will not seek return of any amounts already paid to Brendan through his NIL agreements with the University," Campbell wrote. "We wish our best to Brendan, and we offer our prayers to him and his family as he chases his dreams at the next level. This has been an unbelievably painful experience for us all, but I know that his true, underlying character and lessons learned through this experience will ultimately bring him great success on the field of play and in life." Which, I also the right thing to do.
