I notice that tour caddies always clean the player's club with a wet towel and never see them use a brush. Anyone know why this is? Do brushes harm the clubs in any way?

Part of the reason has to be that is a club is kept clean after each shot it should never really need any brushing. Unless of course you take a giant hackin' clod like I sometimes do.

Obviously a brass brush will be more damaging to a club's surface than will a towel, but I would think the difference is minimal. If there's dry dirt on a club I like a club washer on a cart followed by a brush and towel. If the soil is moist a towel works just as well. I figure if I treat my clubs well they will return the favor. But sometimes they deserve less than five star treatment.

They just might not show it on TV or When they pull the club out to use it they might clean it with a brush..

Agree, I always try to clean the clubs with a damp towel straight after hitting a shot, drastically reduces the need to use the brushes...

If you watch though you'll sometimes see while waiting on a tee a pro cleaning the grooves... And definitely every so often the five star treatment is worth it. It always surprises me to go out with people who have half a field ingrained in the club faces...
