Also, after three people missed the green, were they not allowed to hit from, say, 105 yards? I thought you got to pick where you hit from? Did they have to keep going back farther?

This was how I thought it worked too. I didn't hear anything in the rules about you having to go farther than the last guy, just that the 6 furthest shots that held the green advanced. But no way they would've been hitting from 197-200 if that wasn't the case.

Anyone else surprised that given the chance to hit from a fairway, the rough, or a bunker only 4 or 5 of them went to the fairway? I understand that you need to be closer than anyone from the spot you choose and if you can stick a sand shot its tougher to beat than a shot out of the fairway, but no one really knocked down the pin from the fairway that I remember. Just surprised me is all. Funny the way they set up the challenges to exploit people's arrogance. Let people get in their own way, I love it.

Those brothers hit the ball a mile! Jeez this is going to be fun.

I love the quote from one of their bios: "I had a

pretty rare opportunity to putt for a double eagle." Yes, I think that qualifies as a "pretty" rare opportunity.

In their defense though, they didnt know how close everyone else was. I mean the first guy could have holed out his shot from the fairway and then everyone behind him would have lost?

I figure they probably had to choose their spot in advance, and probably blind since they all seemed surprised when Andrew when all the way up to 100 yards, and then the producers had them hit in order from shortest to longest.

I was impressed with Andrew's strategy. He had to know he'd take some barbs for going all the way forward, but he bet that under pressure at least three players would miss the green. It turned out well for him. Still will enjoy seeing him eliminated, though.

I believe the challenge was; the six farthest shots onto the green. That's how Giulliani made the next show even though he had only hit the ball from

100 yards, only six guys stuck the green.

I've seen all but the first season of BB, and if anything it is entertaining. I don't think thier format always gets the very best players into the finals but usually most of the cream rises near the top. This does look like the best field so far on paper, if it is we should see some pretty good golf.

As far as Ed goes, yes he came off a little cocky about his Olympic medals, but I think he just didn't have enough experience in golf under pressure. I think they said he had only been playing seriously towards becoming a proffesional in the last 3-4 years. His lack of "golf experience" under pressure really showed during the elimination challenge.

The Finau brothers and Perez should go pretty far in this based on all the experience they have either in the Nationwide or PGA Tour already.

In the next tier down I put Vincent Johnson and Kevin Erdman. They have a little experience that may help them get near the end, but I have to say I don't like Kevin's swing but I would guess he can manage his ball around the course well like he did in the elimination challenge.

I'm probably wrong,,lol,, but I think the rest of the guy's are toast! K-Dog, K-Max, K-Mart,,whatever he goes by will not last long because when you have to act like you have confidence,,you usually don't!

But, we shall see, TGC always throws in some crazy challenges that bags one or two of the better players. Should be an interesting show this season!

My friend Dan said this yesterday and I found it funny: "The only thing I like about Kevin Erdman is his wife's breasts."

Agreed - I think he felt he needed to be cocky about the medals since he knew he didn't have the golf experience. Whether as a motivational technique or a true belief, he relied too much on his "natural athletic ability", which doesn't really count for much in golf.

Yeah, I think that was Ed's problem as well.

LOL They are pretty nice. From what I can tell he puts a draw on all of his shots.

Personally I like the brothers and J.R. I doubt Kmax goes far and I think that the bald hooters tour guy will knock himself out of the competition with his anger issues. (will not be able to focus)

I've got to think that the brother will be on the show for a while but I don't think either will win. Mike is going to hang in there and unfortunately Guilliani will too. It should be and it will be (BARF)

The contestants picked their spots in advance. They were then ordered closest to farthest.

I was confused on this also. I was surprised to see the second or third guy take it all the way back to 170yds.

    • I was having a decent round (no doubles is a decent rough these days) when I got to eight and hit a drive that looked like it was going into a fairway bunker. I wish it had because, when I got to the ball, it was hanging on the edge of the bunker and I had no stance. I got into the bunker and just tried to baseball swing a wedge to advance it a little but I bounced it about ten yards into deep rough. I still had 185 to the green and envisioned my first double (at best). Probably should have taken my medicine with a wedge, but I pulled my 25 degree hybrid instead. I made good contact with a lot of topspin and it tumbled and rolled all the way to the green where I was able to two putt for a bogie to keep my "decent round" intact. 😎
    • I am in the same boat, a lefty who has played righthanded all my life because my Dad cut down some of his clubs when I was a kid to hit in the back yard. I am completely lefthanded except for golf, baseball and hockey. It took me years to engage my right side in the swing, but I had a killer backhand in tennis. I tried out playing lefty about thirty years ago, but it was very daunting. Length is enticing, and I could hit it farther lefthanded but it went all over the place. I only gave it about a month before I stopped and I should have given it more time because I think it could have worked out, but I was a decent righty at the time (around a 7 index) and wasn't willing to put in the time. I never had a lot of length, but I could keep the ball in front of me and there is something to say about being in the short grass. Good luck. Hit 'em straight!

    • Although the base rules don't make this really clear, the Player must have decided to use Unplayable Ball relief before lifting the ball.  This exact situation is discussed in the Committee Procedures section of the Rules, section 6C(8).  Section 6C addresses how to rule when a Player proceeds under a Rule that does not apply.  Note that 9.4 applies, 9.4 deals with a player moving his ball when no rule allows it.   Rule 9.4 penalizes the Player for lifting his ball when not permitted by the Rules, and requires him to replace it.  Since he dropped and played from a different place, the Wrong Place penalty applies.  As for a serious breach, that would only apply if the Wrong Place gave him a really significant advantage.  Since he could have taken Unplayable Ball relief in essentially the same spot, for just 1 penalty stroke, the Wrong Place penalty of 2 strokes is enough "punishment", there's no need to consider a DQ.
