Well Brooks can come back, but there are serious financial considerations.

Quote

Designed to provide an alternative path back to PGA TOUR competition for past members who have achieved the highest accomplishments in the game, the Returning Member Program mandates heavy and appropriate limitations to both tournament access and potential earnings that we believe properly holds returning members accountable for substantial compensation earned elsewhere. It also includes elite performance-based criteria that requires winning THE PLAYERS Championship, Masters Tournament, PGA Championship, U.S. Open or The Open Championship between 2022 and 2025.

Its strict limitations, which Brooks has agreed to, include a five-year forfeiture of potential equity in the PGA TOUR's Player Equity Program, representing one of the largest financial repercussions in professional sports history, with estimations that he could miss out on approximately $50-85 million in potential earnings, depending on his competitive performance and the growth of the TOUR. At the request of the PGA TOUR, Brooks has also agreed to make a $5 million charitable contribution, the recipient(s) of which will be determined jointly.

Importantly, the Returning Member Program will not take away playing opportunities from current members — fields will be expanded as needed.

As the 2026 PGA TOUR Season begins this week at the Sony Open in Hawaii, I wanted to provide an update to our fans on recent player developments that have been

LIV Players who didn’t win a major will not have easy access to return though. If more major winners like BD or Cam Smith bug out, LIV may not have a draw anymore.

Haven’t heard about any but rumors were that BD was not renewing with LIV.

He was saying that it doesn't have an audience now… 🙂

I used to play full-time, took some time off, and now it’s like, “Hey, we’ll let you skip the boring qualifiers and just jump back in.” Feels like cheating, but in a totally legal way.

5 million penalty for Brooks is like a parking ticket, compared to what the Saudis paid him. Even with all the bonus money he won't be getting, I'm sure he did the math to know that he's coming out way ahead.

Maybe slightly ahead, but the five years of non-equity being potentially $85M isn't a small thing.

We talked about it here. He a talented player but has zero personality. If other big names follow, LIV may be in trouble which is fine by me.

Looks like Pat Reed, Kevin Na, Hudson Swafford (the most country club name ever) and Pat Perez are returning. No news on punishments. Only Reed has one a major.

Reed won't have to pay any penalties since he resigned from the PGA tour before he left for LIV. Smart move. Not sure about the other guys, but we sure didn't miss them. Maybe they need to earn their way on the Korn Ferry Tour first.

What other guys?

Rahm and Bryson were missed.

I would imagine that most of them were not missed particularly by the PGA Tour. Rahm, Bryson definitely. I think Cam Smith was quite a big loss. They probably miss Phil since he's a pretty good draw and DJ as well. I presume them plus Brooks minus Phil are the five who were allowed to rejoin immediately while paying the fines vs Reed who needs to wait until August.

Rahm was the one who disappointed me the most. I really liked watching him. Most of the others I did not miss.

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
    • I managed to knock off a 3, a 13, and a 15 a couple of weeks ago. The 3 was a 185 yard par 3 with a 6 iron to 12 feet. 13 was a 350 yard par 4, which was a 2 iron and a 9 iron to about a foot. 15 was a 560 yard par 5 with a driver in a bunker, 4 iron into the semi, gap wedge to 8 feet and a putt.
