My bag (Ogio Grom) does excellent double duty as a carry or cart bag. But I wouldn't spend the extra money on a stand bag unless I was going to be walking at least half the time (I walk a majority of the time). The challenge will be finding a bag that is light enough to carry but substantial enough to work well when strapped into a cart.

How about the Sun Mountain MPB? I recently got one and haven't had a ton of time to use it, but so far it is nice. I really like the 14 way full divider, the seperate putter holder, and plenty of storage. I tend to ride or use a push/pull car mostly.

Nike Xtreme Element II is good for both so far. Some friends of mine have the newer Titlest stand bag and the GROM.

I also suggest the Grom for dual duty. Works really well for me both carrying and also on the cart. I usually put the strap through the carry handle and I have never had an issue. Although it does have a rubber strap on it designed for the cart strap to go through.

I have a Titleist premium stand bag and it works well for both. I don't walk at all anymore, but it is light enough to carry and sturdy enough for the cart. One thing I always keep in mind when I look at bags is if they are easy enough to carry to the range, from the car to the clubhouse, inside the house, etc. I see a ton of people who dread having to carry their bag anywhere execpt to put in on the cart. Something to keep in mind even if you don't plan on walking the course a bunch.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I agree that the "carry" from the car can be significant; not all parking lots are close to where you want to go. I really like my OGIO Edge which was recently replaced by the Ninja. I like that I have a stand at the range and a flat back in the cart, plus OGIO has figured out the stand actuator foot so it does not try to kick out the legs when in a cart. I always ride on the course and find my bag works very well.
Bag preferences drive an entire industry so obviously your priorities need to drive your decision. I specifically did not want a 14 way full divider, the OGIO WOODE divider was perfect for me so I got one of the OGIO bags that used that system. I think you need to set some non-negotiables then look for the dual use bag that has what you require.

The rubber torsion strap isn't for the cart strap to go through. You always strap it into the cart with the cart strap going through the carry handle. The rubber torsion strap is used to strap the bag to the cart's frame (and isn't designed to be used without the carts strap). What it does is keep your bag snug against the cart and not slide around or fall over. Most carry bags when strapped to a cart have a tendency to move around because they are smaller than cart bags. To combat that you strap the carry bag in tighter but that just constricts the bag worse and the bag's base still slides around. The torsion strap works great and your bag stays upright and in place. My friend has an Ogio bag that doesn't have the strap and his bag will always be at an angle in the cart as we play while mine looks like it is a part of the cart.
