A billion steps back. It's hyperbole time!

I just shot an amalgamation of the best short game round I've had in a long time and the worst ballstriking round to boot.

The reason I'm posting is because yesterday whilst shopping for a 3 wood, I ended up hitting a lot more consistently with a stiff shaft (I've no idea of the brand, it was seemingly a stock stiff shaft in the '08 TM Burner 3w). This struck me as odd, because I'm currently playing two Cobra Baffler DWS hybrids with regular shafts and today I couldn't hit a fairway to save my life. Each and every shot was going every which way but straight.

Over the last ~2-3 months or so through a course of lessons my ballstriking has been getting better, but since the pro changed my backswing from a truncated half-backswing, bringing my arms parallel to the ground, to a full backswing, I've lost the ability to make repeatable solid contact.

When I went in to play 18 today I saw him and recited the above, and he just said "you're probably trying to hit the ball too hard." Now I respect his input, because he's been very good to me, but if I came from hitting a stiff shafted 3w yesterday with about 9/10 shots going no more than 5-10 yards left or right of where I intended to today where I played military golf, I can't help but think something is up.

Does anyone concur with my thoughts that as my backswing is now "full", my swing speed could have increased to the point where my regular shafts are becoming all wobbly and influencing my swing in a negative manner?

Or should I just go hit a couple hundred/thousand more balls?

Well, I did think about the old "peaks and troughs" theory that they can't all be good days etc., but I haven't really had a good range session since the backswing changes my teacher made.

Should I maybe go and get my swing speeds measured? Or should I just keep at it for a while longer and see if it doesn't all come back?
