Inconsistent distance on golf balls

Has anyone ever experienced an issue with inconsistent distances with 3 or 4 piece balls? I played a round recently and took a Pro-V1 (3 piece) out of play that for three holes did not fly off the blade with the distance I am accustomed to hitting the ball. After I switched to another Pro V1, I had no issue. As an example, the last swing I made with the original ball, I missed a green short by 20 yards with a 7 iron. I took another Pro V1 out of the bag and put it in the middle of the green.

I experienced that one other time with a Titleist Professional some years ago and actually went back to DT wound balls because they were more consistent on distance. Dont get me wrong, I am grateful for the new high performance balls. I'll chalk it up to a manufacturer defect maybe?

Just curious if anyone has ever experienced this before.

I have been playing ProV1x for a while but am actually migrating away from them for the NXT's and Bridgestone e5. I like the 330s as well. I have experience inconsitand distances as well with teh ProV's especially in cooler/colder temps. Maybe they are not very tolerant of certain temperature ranges.
