Club making. Hard to get started?

I have been thinking about trying to make clubs and I was wondering if anyone found it difficult to get into basic club making. I know that some of the tools required to really do it right (such as lie/loft bending machines) and certainly analyzers are prohibitively expensive. But if I just want to regrip and reshaft broken clubs at the driving range or maybe make myself a basic Golfsmith or Snake Eyes iron that I could do it on the (relatively) cheap.

So has anyone tried just simple club making and if so what were the major cost and skill hurdles to overcome?

Regripping clubs is so simple, there's no reason to pay someone $5 labor to do it. Aside from solvent and double sided tape, there are no special tools required to do it. Iron shafting is fairly easy to do, but things like fine tuning swing weights and spine aligning mean you might need to buy a couple of extra tools to get things set up. Graphite shafts are easy to install, but again swing weight and spine aligning can be an issue. Also, saving graphite shafts for reuse requires a good puller which can run anywhere from $150-$1000. Loft and lie machines are very expensive for quality pieces and are not worth it unless you plan on doing a high volume of clubmaking or plan on doing it for a living.
