I bought a set of Mizuno MP-32’s this winter with x100 shafts off of rockbottom and finally have the time to get over to the range when the balls aren’t frozen. I am by no means a good player, I’m a bogey golfer but iron play has never been my weakness, driving and short game more than often lets me down, but with my infrequency of play it’s to be expected. I played a set of Golfsmith XPC midsize irons with FCM 6.5’s for the last 7-8 years or so. I’m 24 probably around 190 lbs so I do put a bit on my swings. I’ve not been fitted since my first set so I could be way wrong in my gear choice but I’ll let the rest of you hackers like me know how things worked out.

So far I’ve been able to hit pw-6iron quite consistently and just as high as my old irons. The wedge-8iron still go sky high with the x100’s which I guess I won’t complain too much about, but I feel after the 6 iron I am too inconsistent this early in the season to justify punishing myself with a more unforgiving long iron. I don’t use hybrids so I’ll be using the XPC’s in the longer iron dept till I get my swing grooved back. I don’t regret making the purchase and for the price ($350) I don’t think I went too wrong. A mixed set would probably be a better bet but I just can’t justify spending the money retail to get the clubs I want, $900 for a set of Mizuno mixed irons just isn’t in my budget. I’ll stick with the older ones till I can gain the swing and confidence to consistently hit the longer irons.

I don’t regret my purchase at all, the feel is outstanding and the punishment from off center hits is much less than I was expecting with a cut muscle design. They look great at address and give me some good confidence when I swing. The distance seems to be a big longer but I’m going to put that to differing lofts on the sets (I can’t find the xpc specs online unfortunately but if its anything like the old titelist pro-100’s I had a 2iron there is a 3iron in Mizuno for loft). If you’re a good iron player who is looking to switch to something that has a more blade appearance I would definitely recommend the mp-32’s but unlike me you should probably get fitted before you buy them! Hopefully the positive range experience will translate onto the course when the damn snow melts.

Hope this review helps someone out who might be looking to go down this road. I know they are older clubs but they can still be had on the cheap new or slightly used.

The mp32's are beautiful clubs; I seriously considered them before I got the mp57's.

Regarding the lofts, I have a 2004 Golfsmith catalog. For that year, the XPC 3000 (the only one listed) 5 iron loft was 26*. The mp32 5 iron loft is 27*. In fact, all the mizuno lofts are 1* weaker. The lofts for other XPC models in different years could be a little different, but I doubt the mizuno lofts are stronger. It could be the mizuno shafts are better suited to your swing. A Rifle 6.5 is an extra stiff shaft, what are the mizunos?

I have true temper x100's in the mizunos, interesting on the lofts, i don't feel like I've been hitting my irons quite as high though which could be translating into a bit extra distance.

If I recall, the rifle shaft flight is a little bit higher than the TT. That could explain the distance improvement in the mizunos.

    • Day 34 (14 Dec 25) - Got outside for a few moments to work on bump and runs with the 4h (again using the exaggerated weight shift reminder of the left (lead) heel). Finding that it helps keep the downswing arc extended.

    • I am currently playing a Cobra Ltdx LS 9 degree driver and Cobra Ltdx LS FW3. Both with Tensei White stock stiff shafts and original weights of 12g (heel) and 3g (toe). My miss is usually a pull fade or sometimes a slice, swing is out to in. Driver swing speed about 112 mph. Grips are stock regular. Intended change: Driver: Switching to Tensei White x-flex one inch shorter which I suppose would be 44,5? Changing heel weight to 18g. Changing grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Change hosel setting to standard draw. FW3: Changing heel weight to 16g (apparently not available in FW weights, but supposed to be something called "internal weight" a club builder can add which fits between the weight and the screw?). Change grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Changing hosel setting to standard +1. The goal is to 1) get better grip since I tend so lose grip in warm and moist conditions with the current grips and 2) mitigate the misses to start more straight with less side spin. Also considering adding the Cobra Ltdx LS FW5 instead of my old Taylormade R9 and getting 14g heel and 6g toe weights with the same grip as the others and hosel setting standard +1.   All of the above is based on conversations with ChatGPT and, as everyone knows, it can come up with pretty much whatever but I spent a few hours asking about different perspectives etc and this was the recommendation. So, my question is basically, does it make any sense?   Thanks.
