I just finished watching Jim Hardy's Plane Truth DVDs and it was like I was hit with a bolt of lightning. Suddenly it's clear why there are so many contradictory tips, and why golfers with entirely different swings can be successful. He is the best I've seen at explaining the golf swing, including WHY it's necessary to perform certain aspects of the swing (either one- or two-plane). It's certainly a refreshing change from the instructors who insist that their method MUST be followed if you want to succeed (often without adequate explanation).

I realize it's not likely to happen, but I'd love to see golf tips (in magazines, this forum, etc) accompanied by a disclaimer stating something like "this tip is purely for a two-plane swing only" or vice-versa. My own swing had almost a 50/50 mix of one- and two-plane elements.

I haven't had much opportunity to play around with it, but it's been a long time since I've been this excited about the potential for my game.

I am a big fan of Jim Harday, and started working toward a one-plane swing a couple of years ago. Still a work in progress, but I think it's the right thing for me. There are many people who don't buy into the "two different planes" theory, but that's OK.

If you haven't done so, check out http://www.jimhardygolf.com . There are lots of great articles, videos, in-depth discussions of pro swings, and a great forum section. Sometimes a little too technical for me, but always interesting.

Good Luck.

Just FYI - Hardy has a lot of good information and puts out the entire 1 and 2 plane background - but in fairness, in reponse to....."It's certainly a refreshing change from the instructors who insist that their method MUST be followed if you want to succeed".......he and his staff do their best to move EVERYONE to the 1 plane method (which I do agree with btw ;>)).

    • A strong grip cups the wrist (lead) and then it wants to flatten through impact, something I used to be able to avoid to keep it from going left and protecting my forearm (the main premise of my set up). Longer the club, harder it is becoming. Either way, yes, I need to transition to gripping it open.
    • Why don't you grip it "open" so you can return your hand to the place where you're comfortable/not sore, but the ball won't go left? It's effectively weaker… without actually "being" weaker?
    • Day 47 - 2024-11-16 Light backswing work with about 3 or 4 rehearsals for every ball hit. Only about ten minutes while waiting for a potential member to show up (he was 25 minutes late). 😛
    • Idk but I would have to imagine that a putter that is aimed where you think it's aimed would be the most important aspect of a putter
