Golf Sales Information?

I am a high school student doing this long research project as part of the school curriculum and I'm combining golf and economics. My research question is something like "What is the effect of the economic downturn on the golf market?" and it's mainly focused on Europe but any info would be helpful.
Do you know of anywhere where this info is available apart from club manufacturers (I've already contacted them with little success or I'm still waiting for a response)?
This would be really helpful.
I'm mainly looking for 2007,2008 and 2009 statistics for sales and (although it's not really needed) the number of golfers with golf club memberships.

I seem to remember reading something about this in either Golf Digest or Golf Magazine a few months back. Might want to check some back issues in a local library (can you get access to those in Norway?).

Don't have the opportunity to find the magazines here in Norway but I'll try to find something about this article on their website.
