Guys,

I've had a sore left shoulder since last weekend. I'm a beginner, and went to the range 3 times last week prior to going to my first lesson. When breaking down my swing via video, my pro said that the soreness in that shoulder is likely due to me flipping at impact. Is it normal for it to still be sore after several days like this? When I try to practice my backswing, the soreness makes if difficult to rotate as full as I otherwise would be able to because the further I rotate my shouders to take the club back, the left shoulder feels like its being "pulled" and it limits my ability to rotate back fully. Is this a common issue, and have others experienced this? Just trying to make sure that this isn't abnormal, and that my plan to just rest it until if feels better should be sufficient.

Is your shoulder is sore, then you might be overswinging and forcing your body into positions it cant get into. I dont know what flipping the club has to do with it. Im just speculating, but im pretty sure your backswing pivot is steep and too long. Also, if you hit off of hard mats at the range it could cause some soreness.

You need to fix your fundamentals, because they may be off forcing you into bad positions that are unnatural and causing your body pain.
Hope this helped,

agree, just like a pitcher in baseball that tears a rotor cuff..too much arm action, need to rotate the chest and shoulders and coordinate them all together.

    • A strong grip cups the wrist (lead) and then it wants to flatten through impact, something I used to be able to avoid to keep it from going left and protecting my forearm (the main premise of my set up). Longer the club, harder it is becoming. Either way, yes, I need to transition to gripping it open.
    • Why don't you grip it "open" so you can return your hand to the place where you're comfortable/not sore, but the ball won't go left? It's effectively weaker… without actually "being" weaker?
    • Day 47 - 2024-11-16 Light backswing work with about 3 or 4 rehearsals for every ball hit. Only about ten minutes while waiting for a potential member to show up (he was 25 minutes late). 😛
    • Idk but I would have to imagine that a putter that is aimed where you think it's aimed would be the most important aspect of a putter
