I'm 16 and a sophomore in high school. I think it's about time I get pretty serious about getting recognized by colleges so I won't have to pay for 4 years of 'learning'. My question is, does anyone know of any good tours in the SOUTH Florida area that will get me pretty good recognition?

The only one I know of so far is the Florida Junior Tour, but their events are held up in Central Florida.

Thanks for your replies.

Not 100% sure if this is what your looking for but http://www.gcjgf.org/ is a southern golf tour. Not even sure on how competitive it is, but no harm in taking a look and seeing if it's right for you.

Best of Luck to You!

Also look at Hurricane Golf Tour, not many events in your area though. With your hcap you should look at FCWT, behind AJGA events I think college scouts look at this tour pretty good. One current PGA touring pro (forgot his name) really supports it. My 13 yr old plays in the GTJGA (Greater Tampa Junior Golf Assoc.), we plan on doing some Premier Junior Tour events and a few FCWT events next year. Ryuji Imada played in the GTJGA, and we get some Leadbetter Academy and Saddlebrook Academy players often playing in it. Might want to give the GTJGA a look, it's $50 for year membership and the 18 hole tournaments are only $30...trophies, lunch,etc.. Good competiton in your age group, winner is usually low 70's or a stroke or 2 under par, play top notch courses in the Tampa area.

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
