So, I've found myself with a free three-day weekend coming up in mid-May, and I'd like to do a golf trip. Unfortunately, the buddies I usually travel with are unavailable, so it looks like it's going to be a solo trip. That said, does anyone have any recommendations based on the following criteria:

1. I live in Philly, so I'm hoping to keep it within 4-5 hours of drive time.
2. Primary goal is to maximize golf (i.e. 5-6 rounds total for Fri-Sun).
3. Extracurriculars (i.e. lodging, entertainment, food) are secondary to golf.
4. Would love to play at least 3-4 different courses.

My original thought would be to head to Williamsburg for the weekend, though that's about as far as I'm willing to go driving-wise. Does anyone else know of good golf pockets in the Northeast that I might be missing? Ideally, I'd love to find some place off the beaten path where there are 3-4 really good courses that could entertain me for the weekend (without costing me $200/round). Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

I'd suggest NJ or various towns in New York state for Golf magazine's courses ranked in the top 100. Or if you don't mind a longer drive, Hilton Head is wonderful for golf!

Ocean City, MD is a great place. The boardwalk is awesome and I just really enjoy the area up there. I've seen a couple of those courses but never been able to play them.

    • I’d go with the Titleist if you liked the look of the blades but were suffering with distance. They should be a little more forgiving than a full blade and still retain some workability. Also remember to consider the shafts each have as this will be a big contributor to how they feel. Clemsonfan is right though… get fit or spend a bit of time on a launch monitor 🤙
    • Day 28: 2026.01.30 Managed to make time for a few swings out back today. Need a proper bit of range time this weekend.
    • Day 30, 1/30.  Six minutes this morning hitting a few more range balls, indoors, off a mat, into the net.  Did this before leaving the house.

    • Hi All my New Year’s resolution was to start playing golf again. I’ve caught the bug and am really enjoying hitting balls at a couple of my local ranges.looking forward to getting back out on courses in the spring. Based in the UK and 38 years old, I’ve been playing since I was a kid. Best handicap I’ve held is 2 in my mid 20s. Over the past 10 years I’ve played once or twice a year, sometimes with friends or for work. Could shoot 4-5 over, but just as easily shoot 15-20 over. I’ve moved to South Wales and am very lucky to be near some world class links courses, which gives me even more motivation to get playing again! I will start looking for a local coach in my area when I have more time to invest, but I recalled scouring this forum a few years ago and finding some good tips and advice so wanted to give it a try to see if there were any glaring issues I could fix in the meantime!  A few swings below… one from 1st week Jan and one from today. I have fixed my P1 takeaway to my liking and am now working on what I see as pretty severe early extension & hip thrust. Also terrible hip rotation. I’d like confirmation that this is indeed a problem and and suggestions on a few good drills. Thanks for reading 🙂 I've been Playing Golf for: 30+ years My current handicap index or average score is: 10ish over My typical ball flight is: mid The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: push right with irons, hooks and push with driver!  Videos:
